Notion is deceivingly simple, and powerful. We ran a workshop last week with and , and learnt a lot as attendees ourselves on the secrets behind an effective workspace — except, there are no secrets.
We’ll share our best 3 with you here.
1. Plan like a pro.
There are patterns you will notice that we integrate into the notion system.
Can you recognise what are your inputs that you want to keep track of?
For example, notes, lead information, costs and earnings, as a start. Recognising the related events that trigger them, the suitable dashboards that can house these information, and likewise databases where the inputs are stored, can be a good start.
To avoid overwhelm, begin with a quick brain dump of all the data you want to store or add into your workspace, and guiding it with your existing work processes can ensure you don’t miss out on any critical information.
With this on paper, you can shift around important parts in the planning stage before locking into the actual system.
2. Use relations.
The Notion dashboards allow you to add “relations” which you can use to connect one database node to another, even across databases.
We’ve seen this being used to improve classification (e.g. subject in larger module) and also to help sort and order (e.g. daily tasks - before and after). Simply add a property and search for “relation” to get started.
3. Do date > Due date.
Rather than overwhelm ourselves with deadlines (or hear it whizz past us), fixing an earlier date can ensure effective action to be taken ahead of time with a healthy amount of pressure, and also helps with task sorting, time blocking, and prioritisation.
What’s your do date for the task you’ve left behind?
Just do it.
