Lately i read a lot posts and articles, how AI is taking over Google organic traffic and that SEO is dead.

So, I decided to dive deeper and find out if AI is really reshaping the way we consume content, or is it just hype ❓

According to Similarweb and Press Gazette, AI-driven visits to top publishers like The New York Post and The Guardian hit 3.5 million in one month. Sounds impressive—only until you realize it’s less than 0.1% of their total traffic

Even with OpenAI’s web search feature citing sources, traditional search engines still totally dominate.

Key Insights You Can’t Ignore:

✅ Partnerships Pay (A Little): Publishers like Forbes and NY Post, which partnered with OpenAI, saw the most referrals (760K visits). But for context, NY Post’s 143.5M monthly visits mean ChatGPT contributed just 0.5%.

✅ Perplexity’s Wildcard Role: While Perplexity sent 450K–850K visits monthly to publishers like CNN and NYT, its growth is inconsistent.

✅ The Bigger Picture: Google and Bing still drive 80%+ of publisher traffic. AI is not replacing search.
