Claude Fable 5 is Anthropic's strongest model yet. The part worth paying attention to: they shipped it as two products.
Fable 5 is the version you can use today. Mythos 5 is the same underlying model with the safeguards lifted, locked to vetted partners.
On the work businesses actually do, the benchmarks lead the field. Agentic coding sits at 80.3% on SWE-Bench Pro against 69.2% for Opus 4.8, and it leads on knowledge work, vision, legal, and health too. The longer and harder the task, the bigger the gap.
Two catches before anyone quotes those numbers at you:
1. The headline cybersecurity and biology figures belong to Mythos 5, the model you cannot buy. On those exact topics Fable 5 falls back to Opus 4.8, so the real scores you would ship are lower.
2. It runs at $10/$50 per million tokens. Double Opus 4.8. This is a premium tier, not a free upgrade.
Our read: point it at the hardest, longest-horizon work where sustained autonomy pays for itself. Keep Opus 4.8 as the default for routine tasks at half the price.
