Mercedes-Benz is bringing humanoid robots into its factories to boost efficiency and tackle labor shortages. The company has invested millions in Apptronik, a Texas-based robotics firm.
Apptronik’s "Apollo" robots are being tested for tasks like moving components to production lines and inspecting quality. Trained through remote human operation, these robots can now perform tasks on their own.
Mercedes-Benz is currently testing them at its Digital Factory Campus in Berlin and in Kecskemét, Hungary, with plans to expand further.
The goal is to automate repetitive and hazardous jobs, especially in areas with labor shortages. However, the cost of these robots will play a crucial role in their adoption.
