Mr. Sorie Fofanah, Chairman of the Board of the National Civil Registration Authority (NCRA), has publicly apologised to Sierra Leoneans over a statement he made during a recent appearance on national television "๐—™๐—˜๐—› ๐—™๐—˜๐—› ๐—™๐—˜๐—›"

The Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) has condemned an alleged threat against journalist Thomas Josephus Dixon, which he reportedly alleged that Moses Sellu Mambu, National Publicity Secretary of the ruling Sierra Leone Peopleโ€™s Party (SLPP), threatened him following a television programme at Africa Young Voices (AYV) in Freetown on 27 September 2026.

SLAJ described the allegation as serious and disturbing, particularly because the reported statement allegedly referenced the death of journalist Ibrahim Samura, who died after sustaining injuries while covering the 2018 elections. SLAJ President Alhaji Manika Kamara said threats against journalists should not be treated as personal matters, as they can undermine press freedom and the publicโ€™s right to information.

The Association has called on the Sierra Leone Police and other relevant authorities to conduct an immediate, impartial and credible investigation into the matter. Meanwhile, Mambu has denied making the alleged threat, stating that he only cautioned Dixon to be careful. SLAJ has also urged authorities to assess Dixonโ€™s security concerns and take appropriate measures to ensure his safety while the matter is being investigated.
