The Sierra Leone Police (SLP), led by Inspector General William Fayia Sellu, has launched a nationwide sensitization campaign to transition the SLP from a "police force" to a "police service" with a focus on community-oriented policing. The initiative includes town hall meetings and outreach engagements, starting in Western Freetown, where IGP Sellu emphasized patience and collaboration as the transformation unfolds.

Key actions include reviewing outdated police regulations, improving infrastructure with new equipment and surveillance systems, and benchmarking Ghana's policing model with UNDP support. Sellu stressed the importance of community partnerships in fighting crime and announced plans for expanded sensitization activities across Sierra Leone beginning January 2025.
