Governor Lobong Meets Turkana County Deputy Governor to Strengthen Cross-Border Cooperation

Turkana County, Kenya | 18 August 2026 — Governor of Eastern Equatoria State, H.E. Gen. Louis Lobong Lojore, held discussions with the Deputy Governor of Turkana County on strengthening cross-border peace, cooperation, local investment and infrastructure development between Eastern Equatoria State of South Sudan and Turkana County of Kenya.

The discussions focused on promoting peaceful relations among border communities, encouraging local and regional investment, and supporting initiatives aimed at maintaining and improving roads connecting communities across the border.

Governor Lobong noted that the extension of tarmac/bitumen roads to the border may take time, pending the necessary commitments and arrangements between the two countries. He emphasized that, in the meantime, Eastern Equatoria State and Turkana County can work together to improve road connectivity through murram/gravel road maintenance and rehabilitation, facilitating trade, mobility, investment and regional integration for local communities.

The two leaders also discussed opportunities for investment along the border and agreed on the importance of engaging development partners and investors to support infrastructure and other economic initiatives.

The Deputy Governor of Turkana County committed to engaging relevant partners who could participate in cross-border investment and infrastructure development.

The Turkana County Government is also expected to convene a high-level delegation meeting with the Government of Eastern Equatoria State, where Governor Lobong will be invited to make a presentation on the State’s priorities, investment opportunities and areas of cooperation.

The meeting reaffirmed the shared commitment of Eastern Equatoria State and Turkana County to strengthening cross-border peace, economic cooperation, infrastructure connectivity and sustainable development, for the benefit of communities on both sides of the border.
