๐๐ฎ๐๐, ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ฎ๐ง๐ ๐๐๐๐ โ The Senior Presidential Envoy, Hon. Adut Kiir, held a consultative meeting with the Minister of Culture, Museums and National Heritage, Hon. Sarah Nyanath Elijah Yong, to explore avenues for collaboration in advancing national development, cultural preservation, heritage promotion, and socio-economic empowerment.
During the meeting, the Minister highlighted key institutional and operational challenges facing the Ministry, particularly resource constraints affecting the implementation of priority national programmes.
In response, Hon. Adut Kiir reaffirmed her commitment to supporting the Ministry within the scope of her mandate and pledged to explore opportunities for facilitating initiatives of national significance.
The discussions also focused on the Ministryโs upcoming international engagements, including the planned mission to France concerning the submission of the BomaโBadingilo Migratory Landscape dossier to UNESCO.
A key agenda item was the development of the Dr. John Garang Memorial and Museum Complex. Both leaders emphasized the importance of transforming the site into a premier national heritage institution that preserves the legacy of the Founding Father of the Nation while serving as a center for education, research, tourism, and civic engagement.
They underscored the need for enhanced planning, infrastructure development, and resource mobilization to achieve tangible progress before the end of the year.
The meeting further explored opportunities to leverage South Sudanโs cultural and heritage assets as drivers of economic growth, job creation, and community empowerment. Drawing from discussions held during the Africa Business Forum in Addis Ababa, the two leaders considered pathways for promoting cultural industries, creative enterprises, heritage-based tourism, and traditional crafts as sustainable sources of livelihood for youth and women across the country.
Both parties agreed on the importance of ensuring that cultural development contributes directly to inclusive economic transformation, national unity, and social cohesion.
