Finding Myself Again - My Journey to Mental Wellness & Self-Discovery

Hey everyone, Gypsy here 🌻 For those who don’t know me, I’m “The Damaged Gypsy,” a young wanderer who’s been on the move for nearly 8 years in Asia. My life might look like an endless adventure of exploring new places, but today, I’m sharing a part of my story that often stays hidden behind the scenes.

I’ve been living the nomadic life, bouncing between countries like Thailand, the Philippines, and now Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia. While it sounds dreamy, this journey has been more than just discovering new places. It’s been a constant search for myself, trying to make sense of who I am while battling an ongoing identity crisis. For years, I’ve struggled with borderline personality disorder, anxiety, depression, and even bipolar disorder. Despite it all, I’ve perfected the art of hiding behind a bright smile and a bubbly personality.

But the reality is, there have been dark days where the struggle felt unbearable. I chose to keep moving, not just because I love exploring, but because staying in one place felt like facing a reality I wasn't ready for. The fear of returning home and feeling like a failure pushed me to keep going, one visa at a time.

Over the years, I’ve learned that mental health isn’t something you can ignore, no matter how far you run. Recently, I’ve started making real efforts to heal. I’ve embraced a healthier lifestyle, shifted to a keto diet, and tried to find balance in my everyday routine. I’m working on rebuilding my relationship with myself and my partner, who’s been a rock in this crazy journey. And I’m discovering new passions, like creating content and improving my filming and editing skills.

This journey isn’t just about seeing beautiful places anymore—it’s about finding my way back to me. If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that we all carry scars, but those marks don’t make us broken; they make us human.

Taking time to care for our mental health isn’t just important—it’s *essentia*l. 🌱 We often talk about physical health, but mental health deserves the same attention, support, and understanding.

Recently, I’ve taken a step back to focus on my own journey, including learning more about bipolar disorder and borderline personality disorder, two mental health conditions that impact emotions, relationships, and daily life in unique ways.

For those who may not know, bipolar disorder involves intense mood shifts, from high-energy, often impulsive “manic” episodes to deep, low-energy “depressive” episodes. These ups and downs can affect everything from our energy levels to how we view ourselves and the world around us.

On the other hand, borderline personality disorder (BPD) brings its own set of challenges, including a heightened sensitivity to emotions, fear of abandonment, and struggles with self-identity. BPD can make relationships feel overwhelming, and emotions can change quickly, creating a rollercoaster that’s tough to manage.

I’m sharing this because taking the time to understand and prioritize mental health can be transformative. Whether it’s through journaling, connecting with supportive communities, or practicing mindfulness, there are so many small but powerful steps we can take to make mental health a priority.

Mental health is a journey, not a destination. 💪 It’s okay to need support and take things one day at a time.
