Physics Camp – Day 5
Our final physics day was filled with laughter, teamwork, and exciting hands-on science! We started with the traditional Thai game “Ree Ree Khao San (รีรีข้าวสาร)”, helping campers build friendships, practice teamwork, and enjoy active play together.
Experiments
1. Magic Cup – Where Did the Water Go? (Water-Absorbing Polymer)
Campers observed what seemed like a magic trick as water “disappeared” inside a cup. Through careful observation and creative thinking, they discovered that superabsorbent polymer beads (the same material used in diapers) can absorb and lock away large amounts of water. This activity introduced the science of absorption, polymers, and material properties, while encouraging curiosity and prediction skills.
2. Water Bag & Pencil Challenge – Capacity and Pressure
Using a plastic bag filled with water, campers carefully pushed sharpened pencils through the bag without causing it to leak. They explored how the elastic polymer chains in the plastic bag form a tight seal around each pencil, while also observing the capacity of the bag and the pressure exerted by the water. This exciting experiment encouraged observation, hypothesis testing, and confidence in exploring scientific ideas.
3. Butterscotch Candy – Food Science
Campers made delicious butterscotch candy while learning how heat changes sugar through physical processes such as melting and dissolving. They observed how ingredients transform with temperature and discovered the connection between food science, cooking, and chemistry.
Another fantastic day of discovering science through play, asking thoughtful questions, and working together. Thank you to all our wonderful campers for making this Physics Camp such a memorable experience! 🌟🔬
