In 1961, Michael Rockefeller, son of New York Governor Nelson Rockefeller, vanished while on an expedition along the coast of Dutch New Guinea. He was collecting Asmat artwork for the Museum of Primitive Art, founded by his father, when disaster struck.

After his catamaran capsized nearly 12 miles from shore, Michael made a desperate decision. He tied empty fuel cans around his waist and swam toward land. His companion, Dutch anthropologist René Wassing, stayed behind and was rescued. Michael was never seen again.

But what really happened to Michael Rockefeller? Did he drown trying to reach shore, or did he make it to land, only to encounter something far more sinister? The Asmat people’s spiritual traditions, their connection to bisj poles, and the mysterious circumstances surrounding his disappearance have fuelled speculation for decades.

I never believed in ghosts before this happened at an isolated summer camp in the mountains of Japan.

During the night, a Japanese boy was standing motionless behind the glass door. His eyes appeared completely black, and he was speaking in tongues. He only knew Japanese, but what came out of his mouth wasn’t Japanese or English.

The Indonesian boss of the camp called his mother back in Indonesia for help. In their culture, she was someone who knew how to deal with spirits. What happened next was something I never expected.

A strange number keeps appearing throughout music history: 27.

One of the earliest and most mysterious cases was blues guitarist Robert Johnson, who seemingly transformed almost overnight into one of the most extraordinary musicians of his time.

Then, at just 27 years old, Johnson died under mysterious circumstances after allegedly being poisoned.

I went to the Japanese countryside to teach English for four days.

According to analysis presented by researchers studying the sphere, microscopic traces of organic resin trapped within tiny openings were carbon dated to 12,560 years ago, placing the material at the very end of the last Ice Age.

That would make the material thousands of years older than the rise of known civilizations, a period when Earth was experiencing dramatic climate changes, rising sea levels and widespread environmental shifts.

The sphere’s outer shell is just as mysterious. Investigators have reportedly described its metallic composition as unlike known alloys used in modern aerospace or industrial manufacturing, with an unusual combination of elements and electromagnetic properties.

More than 50 years before the Buga Sphere appeared, another mysterious sphere was discovered in Florida by the Betz family after a bushfire.

The Betz Sphere was metallic, with no visible welds, joints, or obvious method of construction. The family claimed it could roll on its own, change direction without any visible force, produce a low humming vibration, and even respond to music played nearby.

The US Navy eventually examined the object, turning the Betz Sphere into one of the most discussed unexplained artefacts in UFO history.
