Here are some basic essential tools the modern day designer uses in their toolkit.

1) A good camera. It can be a DSLR or your smartphone camera. This helps you record content for your portfolio or social media pages.

2) Sketchpad. It helps to put your ideas down on paper. You can use it to sketch, paint, draw or collage.

3) ‘Fine liner’ or ‘fine tip’ markers. Smaller tips are great for sketching in detail. My personal favourite point sizes are 0.2mm 0.5mm & 0.7mm

4) Drawing tablet or iPad with stylus. These help you digitize your artwork. Whether that’s creating vector logos or digital illustrations. It’s optional but very helpful because it mimics they way we naturally draw.

5) A good laptop. Having a device with enough storage and speed to run your apps smoothly is good for making your workflow faster.

6) Design software. It can be any app from the Adobe creative suite or online design tools.

For this concept I went with a galaxy theme for bothe the logo design and the colour palette. The creative direction I choose for this is a playful, fun, and vibrant design style.

Have you ever been confused by the files your designer sends you? You thought that you were just signing up for a logo but instead you're met with a whole bunch of files.

Wouldn’t it be easier if they just print the logo out and send it to you? No, it doesn’t work like that but I can explain.

Here’s a quick guide on what all these files are and how you’d need to use them (for the non-designer)
jpg aka .jpeg |Joint Photographic Experts Group
This is a standard image file. It’s great to use for social media, and on the web due to its small file size. If scaled up to a larger size it will get very blurry/pixelated.
png | Portable Network Graphic
Another commonly used raster based image. It can also be used for web & socials. However this one has a super power! It supports transparency! That makes it great for icons or layering your logo design on top of a background. It has higher image quality.
svg | Scalable Vector Graphic
These are vector graphics that are used on the web. These graphics can be scaled up to larger sizes without losing quality. This makes it great for use in online design apps.
pdf | Portable Document Format File
A multi-platform document viewer. It has many uses however in the case of logo design you can use it to print materials.
eps | Encapsulated Postscript
A vector graphic file that supports text, images and vector artwork. This is great for high resolution printing. Usually a printing company will request this file to get your logo design printed on merch, apparel, printed collateral, or stationery for your business.
ai | Adobe Illustrator Artwork
This is for the designer. They used a vector based drawing app to design your logo. The result is a high quality design. When scaled up or down it maintains its sharp edges.

Roll n' Donuts Brand Reveal 🍩🌈🤩
I really love how this brand turned out. But I had a hard time coming up with a tagline. A few that came to mind were 'hot n' groovy' (don't ask y 😅), 'freshly baked' and 'you'd dig it!'. That was an attempt to use some 90s slang. But I settled on 'funky fresh'.
