TRADE IMBALANCE BETWEEN JAMAICA AND TRINIDAD &TOBAGO

The trade imbalance between Trinidad and Jamaica has continued to be in favour of Trinidad and Tobago over the period 2005-2010. The year 2008 experienced a sharp increase of 102% in exports from $3,862 million to 7,784 million. This trade balance indicated the highest during the period 2005 – 2010, after declining significantly by 63% to $2,872 million.

The main products exported to Jamaica are energy products (HS code 27), namely; motor spirit gasoline, gas oil. Also non-energy products exported are mainly (HS code 19, 20, & 22), namely; breads and cakes, beverages and other flavoured waters.

On the other hand, imports from Jamaica, though low, marginally fluctuated throughout the period 2005- 2010, peaking in 2009 at $139 million, a 38% increase from $100 million. The main imports from Jamaica include; sulfuric acid, cement clinker and gypsum.
