Finding Treasures in Taiwan: My Adventure Through a Vintage Lens
Taiwan is really unexpected and very unique. After ten years here, I still feel like I'm on a new journey every day. I recently came into a street vendor with an interesting collection of lenses while visiting Syntrend Mall. I finally gave in to my curiosity and ended up taking home a truly remarkable artifact from 1995. This gear, almost as old as I am, amazed me with its engineering, design, and build quality.
The Minolta AF Macro 50mm 1:2.8 (32) Ø 55mm is the lens I'm referring to. My first impression was that the Auto Focus function was not supported, which is expected from a lens manufactured almost 30 years ago and now discontinued. But this simply made things more exciting. Even in low light, the image quality is astounding—it's among the sharpest lenses I've tested.
I have the Sony ZV-E10 and Sony ILCE-7M2 cameras connected with this lens. Even though my wife didn't know how the cameras worked before, she managed to get some really good shots. This demonstrates the amazing quality and use that this lens, even for novices, delivers.
Even though I'm still learning, I enjoy the challenge of picking up old camera equipment. I may now confidently claim to be the owner of a remarkable piece of photography history. My admiration for old equipment has grown as a result of this experience, in addition to improving my photography abilities.
