There are moments when speaking feels harder than it should.

Not because you don’t know what to say.

But because something shifts the moment all eyes are on you.

You start explaining… and halfway through realize it’s not coming out right.

Or you have a strong point, but someone else speaks first- and you never find your way back in.

Or you finally get the chance… and it just doesn’t land the way it did in your head.

I’ve noticed this a lot.

Most people don’t lack ideas.

In certain moments, they just lose control of how those ideas come out.

Which one happens to you most?

Have you ever started explaining an idea… and halfway through realized:

“This is not coming out the way I intended.”

Your thinking was clear in your head.

But when all eyes are on you; in the presentation, the interview, the panel, the boardroom - your structure disappears and the message doesn’t land the way you intended.

This happens to many capable professionals.

So I’m hosting a 90-minute live masterclass where I’ll teach a practical framework for organizing your thoughts and explaining your ideas clearly... even when the pressure is on.

Earlier this month I attended a conference.

Just before lunch when everyone was already tired and attention was low, a CEO was invited to the stage to introduce the chief guest.

He had been given two minutes.

Instead, he began by sharing his thoughts on the conference theme… then his reflections on the morning sessions… then more thoughts.

Within minutes, three-quarters of the room were looking down at their phones.

He wasn’t saying anything new.
He just wanted to speak.

Seven minutes later he finally began the introduction.

By the time he finished, ten minutes had passed.

The interesting thing is that he probably walked off stage feeling he had done well; that he had been seen, that he had had his moment.

But the effect was the opposite.

When people speak without structure, the audience doesn’t see importance. They see vanity.

We are living in a time where attention is scarce.

If you are not offering value quickly, people switch off.

And the irony is that those two minutes were more than enough.

Enough time to introduce the speaker.
Enough time to inject humour.
Enough time to connect the speaker to his own expertise.

Enough time to show authority.

We see this pattern everywhere; At conferences, at weddings, funerals... even in meetings.

Someone is given five minutes and appears with a 30-slide deck presentation, thinking more words will create more impact.

But the opposite is true.

The clearer the structure, the stronger the message lands.

Less talking.
More clarity.

Have you ever started explaining an idea… and suddenly realized:
“This is not coming out the way I intended.”

Your thinking was clear in your head.

But when the moment comes; the presentation, the interview, the panel, the client conversation - something happens.

Your structure disappears.

You start adding explanations you hadn’t planned.

You go in circles trying to clarify.

And when you finish, you can tell the message didn’t land the way you intended.

This happens to many capable professionals.

Not because they lack knowledge.

But because the pressure of the moment disrupts how the idea is organised.

On 19 March, I’m hosting a 90-minute live masterclass where I’ll teach a practical framework for organizing your thoughts and explaining your ideas clearly... even when the pressure is on.

Are you being heard in meetings?

Many professionals struggle to explain their ideas clearly.

Not because they lack knowledge.

But because they start speaking before deciding the point.

Before explaining an idea, pause and ask yourself one question:

“What do I want them to remember?”

Then structure your message simply:

Point → Reason → Example

• Start with the idea
• Explain why it matters
• Give a concrete example

For example, instead of saying:

I think there are several factors affecting this project…"*

Start with the point:
“The biggest risk to this project is the timeline.”

Then explain why.

When your message has structure, people understand faster.

And when people understand faster, your ideas carry more weight.

Have you ever experienced this?

You explain an idea in a meeting.

The room looks confused.

Five minutes later someone repeats the same idea…

Suddenly everyone agrees.

And you’re sitting there thinking:

“That’s exactly what I was trying to say.”

This happens more often than people admit.

Many professionals know what they want to say, but in high-pressure moments; the interview, the panel, the boardroom, your structure disappears.

Clear communication usually follows a simple pattern:
• Start with the point
• Explain the reasoning
• Give an example

When ideas are structured clearly, people understand faster.

Next week I’ll be teaching the exact thinking structure I use for high-pressure speaking moments.

Many people don’t lose opportunities because they were wrong.
They lose because their words were heard differently.

We’re often taught that truth, empathy, and good intention are enough. That if we explain ourselves clearly, the outcome will be fair.

It isn’t.

In this week’s Beyond Visible™ newsletter, I reflect on a story that reveals an uncomfortable reality about power, interpretation, and communication- and why being right does not always protect you.

If you’ve ever walked away thinking, “That’s not what I meant,” this may give language to what you experienced.

A misconception that many people have, is that if they are hardworking, they will automatically get more opportunities.

But what they don't realise it that they lose opportunities because their value lives only inside their head.

Being good at what you do is private.
Being understood is public.
And the world doesn’t reward what it can’t place.

12/01/2026

January has a way of convincing us that effort is the answer.

So we add hours.
We sacrifice more.
We tell ourselves, this time I’ll push harder.

And yet… by March, many people are still in the same place.

Here’s the part we don’t like admitting:
Being capable is not the same as being understood.

You can be excellent...
and still be invisible in rooms where decisions are made.

Not because you lack value.
But because your value is landing unclearly.

Visibility is not noise.
It’s not shouting.
It’s not explaining everything.

It’s being placeable.
It’s being understandable.
It’s making it easy for someone to know where you fit and why you matter.

As the year begins, this is a question worth sitting with:

👉🏽 If someone had to advocate for you in a room you’re not in… would they know what to say?
