Our duty is to assurance a continuous deliver of the maximum quality Fresh Water and seafood products by Supporting and Invest in fish farming transition towards a more sustainable industry. With its value chain partners, this demand-driven program aims to increase responsible production of the Tanzania import of shrimp, tilapia and sea w**d by 50% by 2020. To increase the supply of responsibly fa

rmed fish and create positive social and environmental impact, the TADU Aquaculture Program boosts demand and supports fish farmers in their transition towards more responsible practices. Ambitions of the program
• Successful market introduction of the TADU label
• Support of 10,000 of smallholders in Tanzania to comply with Eco-Certification ASC standards
• Protection of vulnerable ecologic systems in Tanzania and Africa in particular. Theory of Change
To increase the supply of responsibly farmed fish and create positive social and environmental impact, the TADU Aquaculture Program boosts demand and supports fish farmers in their transition towards more responsible practices. TADU aims to accelerate the shift towards a responsible aquaculture sector by leveraging demand and supporting increased supply by creating a framework to sustain these changes. This will be achieved by adopting three intervention strategies:
1. Committing retail and fish buyers to responsible sourcing preferably through independent certification in order to provide an incentive for better farming practices. Buyers’ interest is fueled by their need for traceability and securing access to products for current and future demand, and their need for consumer trust in their brands.
2. Implementing scalable and cost-effective models for providing support that enable farmers to improve business performance, reduce impact on the environment, improve social responsibility and increase supply chain resilience. These models bring reduced transition costs and efficiency gains to both donors and companies investing.
3. Convening coalitions of private and public sector stakeholders (like retail, trade, donors, CSO’s), supporting the advancements of standards (ASC organization, benchmarking, cost efficiencies, feed dialogue) and strengthening the enabling environment for sustainable farming in the countries of production. Key activities
• Creating supply of responsibly farmed fish through IDH’s development programs. Fish farmers of, tilapia and shrimp in Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, India and China are supported in complying to the ASC standards for responsible aquaculture.
• Supporting large, medium and smallholders and workers through training in implementation of the ASC standard, better farming methods and improved traceability, capacity building in management and food safety procedures, access to responsible fish feed and other inputs, environmental impact reports, etc.
• ASC participation and support in building the ASC organization, management and governance, capacity building of certifiers and auditors, communication, labeling and marketing strategy.
• Convene traders and retailers on sourcing ASC certified fish and help organize the supply of certified farmed fish trough producers support.
