Raja Ampat, Indonesia
This glorious archipelago can be found in the Coral Triangle, an area that lies between Indonesia, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea and the Philippines. Famous for being one of the most biodiverse marine habitats in the world, Raja Ampat is as beautiful below ground as it is above it. Come for days spent snorkelling among rainbow-coloured fish and bright coral reefs, or keep your head above water for the birds – hornbills, cockatoos, sea eagles, to name a few. It's a nature-lovers paradise.

Lofoten, Norway
With its cliff-edge houses, deep fjords and rugged granite mountains surging out of the sea, Norway’s Lofoten archipelago is unapologetically untamed.

The landscape is just as breathtaking on stormy days – when waves swirl ominously around the coastline – as it is on clear and serene days, when the sea acts as a mirror for Lofoten’s towering peaks. Pictured here is the ultra-photogenic island village of Hamnoy.

Cheddar Gorge, Somerset, England, UK
Set within Somerset’s gorgeous countryside, Cheddar Gorge is one of the UK’s most unique natural landscapes. Measuring an impressive 400 feet (122m) deep and three miles long (4.8km), it's the largest gorge in England.

Characterised by limestone cliffs, its steep slopes were formed around one million years ago when melting glaciers carved out the rocks during the last Ice Age. The gorge was also where Britain’s oldest complete skeleton was found.

After the Earth began to form about 4.6 billion years ago, it gradually separated into layers of lighter and heavier rock. The lighter rock rose and formed the Earth’s crust. The heavier rock sank and formed the Earth’s core and mantle

A characteristic of members of the animal kingdom is the presence of muscles and the mobility they afford. Mobility is an important influence on how an organism obtains nutrients for growth and reproduction. Animals typically move, in one way or another, to feed on other living organisms, but some consume dead organic matter or even photosynthesize by housing symbiotic algae.

Except perhaps for the possession of collagen, the criteria used above to distinguish animals from other forms of life are not absolute. The first catalogs of animal diversity were based on overall form and similarity.

Pollination: Imagine trying to pollinate every apple blossom in an orchard: this is what nature does for us. Insects, birds, and even some mammals, pollinate the world’s plants, including much of human agriculture. Around 80% of the world’s plants require a different species to act as pollinator.
