The first espresso machine was invented in 1901 in Milan, Italy by an engineer named Luigi Bezzera. The machine was a horizontal boiler filled with boiling water and steam (temperature up to 145°), which created the pressure necessary for the passage of water through special baskets containing coffee.

Italian baristas solved the problem for their patrons by offering a glass of hot water on the side to dilute the strong espresso. As this proved to be a popular solution, it soon became common practice to place the espresso in a larger cup and pour hot water over it.
Then you could add milk and sugar as desired. This style of coffee consumption was called "Cafe Americano" in those days, and later the name was simply shortened to "Americano", as it is known today all over the world.

There are drink options that include tea, mate or matcha instead of coffee.

I like instant gratification. It’s like instant Coffee, only it won’t keep you up all night
