Despite the fact that the population of Munich exceeds one and a half million inhabitants, there are not many skyscrapers in the city. And in 2004, a referendum was adopted, according to which it is forbidden to erect buildings higher than 99 meters in the city. This is done so that the new buildings do not cover one of the main symbols of the city - the Cathedral of the Virgin Mary, the height of which is exactly 99 meters. The construction of the cathedral was completed in the 16th century, and up to 20,000 people can be present at the same time.
