Zhangjiajie National Forest Park (Avatar Mountains), China
This park in Hunan Province features towering sandstone pillars that inspired the floating mountains in the movie "Avatar." Mist often swirls around the peaks, creating an ethereal atmosphere. Millions of years of erosion have worn away the rock massifs, leaving behind tall, slender cliffs that resemble overgrown skyscrapers. Some of these cliffs reach up to 1,200 meters high. When clouds descend into the valley or fog rolls in after rain, the cliffs appear to float in midair. Changing light and wind further enhance the illusion, making the scene seem alive. Zhangjiajie National Park and its floating cliffs have become a trademark of China and have been recognized as a national treasure.
