curonian spit
The Curonian Spit, according to most tourists, is considered the main attraction of Kaliningrad. Long before the arrival of the Germans to the lands of Prussia, an ancient tribe of Curonians lived here, thanks to which the spit got its name. It stretched for 98 kilometers from Zelenogradsk to the city of Klaipeda, in Lithuania. If you look at the map, this is a thin piece of land separating the bay of the same name from the Baltic Sea. The main relief here is sand dunes, 72% covered with forests, inhabited by elks, roe deer, wild boars, foxes and others.
Most tourists come here for the sake of relaxing on the beach, as well as viewing unique natural formations: the heights of Efa and Muller, Swan Lake, the Dancing Forest. In 2000, the Curonian Spit was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
