Happy 🌈 and month from our q***r family to yours! You can’t tell, but are very happy it’s pride month.

Quick reminder to all the white, LGBTQ+ people out there, pride as we know it was started and led by trans women of color fighting against police brutality. Know your history and respect it. BLM. ACAB.

Depending on your location, some of us have been WFH (and if you have kids) homeschooling for the last 2-4 weeks. Even for seasoned WFH employees it’s been a challenge adjusting (OK, lets be honest this has been awful!). Here are four tips to keeping your team (and yourself) motivated during COVID-19.

1). Check in with your team. Don’t just ask “how are you” or about the projects they’re working on. Chances are they’ll just say “fine.” Instead, see how they’re genuinely doing and coping.

2). For some, COVID-19 is resulting in last minute external and internal deliverables with (often) unrealistic deadlines. Listen to your team when they say they can’t meet a certain date and work with them to manage priorities. Also, set a precedent that WFH does NOT mean working 12+ hour days simply because you can.

3). During times of panic, everything is an emergency and everything is due “ASAP.” However, there are only so many hours in a day and so many resources. Work with your clients to create a strategy and prioritize deliverables.

4). After a few weeks, it’s natural to run out of ways to keep yourself busy. Help organize company or team power hours. Our office has done virtual cocktail making classes, morning yoga and story time for kids to name a few.

Leave a comment with ways you’re keeping yourself and your team motivated!

With many now working from home as a result of COVID-19, here are some WFH tips that I (as someone who WFH often) implement each day:

1. Still get up at your routine time and get ready for the day. Working in your PJs is admittedly tempting, but won’t help you stay focused or productive.

2. Try not to work in your bedroom. That is your safe and relaxing space. Don’t fill it with stressful energy.

3. If you can, work at a table or desk not the couch or your bed. A midday nap becomes a little too tempting when sitting on plush couches and beds (trust me).

4. I love working with background noise, but stick to music or ambient sounds, not the TV. It takes a distracting scene or two to mess up a report.

5. I love snacking just as much as the next person, but find I do it much more often when WFH. Prep your meals and snacks just as you would any other day.

6. TAKE A BREAK! At the office, we usually take micro-breaks to talk to a coworker, grab something off the printer or a drink from the kitchen. At home, walk around the house, watch a short YouTube video or just get off your chair and do some stretching.

Happy to offer more WFH advice at any time 🙂 It’ll be a frustrating couple weeks but we can get through it together!

A little femme. A little masculine. 100% me.

Your daily reminder that gender and the characteristics we assign to them are not real. As Mama Ru says, we’re all born naked and the rest is drag. Can I get an amen?!
