We built a full art system for a mythology slot. Character, symbols, backgrounds, UI, win screens, jackpot sequences.

Halfway through, the 3D animation pipeline created a performance problem. Frame sequences were too heavy for web. We switched to Spine 2D with a 2.5D effect and solved it without touching the visual quality.

When a player presses SPIN, everything looks simple.

Reels spin.
Symbols land.
Animations play.

But behind that experience stands a complex engineering system. The game engine.

In this article, Pavlo Ratushnyi, Head of Development at Twin Win Games, explains how modern casino game engines structure gameplay, synchronize systems, and make scalable game production possible.

Happy International Women’s Day 🌸

12 years ago, twin sisters Natalia and Tatiana Makarova started building a game development studio.

At the same time, they were also starting their families.

Today, Twin Win Games has delivered 1000+ projects with a team of more than 100 people.

But behind those numbers were real questions many founders face.

For this Women’s Day, we asked them four simple questions:

1. What was hardest at the beginning?
2. What strengths do women bring to leadership?
3. How do you balance business and family?
4. What advice would you give women afraid to start?

Their answers are honest, practical, and very real.

Swipe through to read the key moments from the conversation 👉

Happy International Women’s Day to all the women who are building, leading, and creating.

Natalia Makarova, CEO and Co-founder of Twin Win Games, puts it clearly:
“In practice, studios are prioritizing partnership, trust, and long-term ownership. Choosing partners who think in products, not deliverables, and are committed to long-term outcomes.”

AI lowered the barrier to entry. Tools are everywhere. What matters now is who has built games across different markets, understands regulatory requirements, and knows how products behave in live operations.

Full-cycle ownership defines the scope earlier. Regulatory constraints are considered from day one. Budgets and timelines rely on real production experience.

Studios are replacing task-based vendors with partners who take responsibility for outcomes.

Right now, everyone is chasing one thing: speed.

Studios are actively looking for tools to test ideas faster and move into production quicker. MVP thinking, faster validation, shorter cycles.

But expectations and reality still don’t always match.

As Anna Vasylkivska, Head of Production, shared:
“Everyone is chasing faster time to market and looking for tools to test ideas quicker. But the teams that actually launch have clear expectations, realistic timelines, and structured roadmaps. Speed without planning doesn’t move a game forward.”

There’s also a clear split in how companies treat AI. Some still say “no way.” Others are ready to integrate it into everything.

Interestingly, production does not “break” after conferences. What breaks is follow-through. Big promises need real briefs, real scope, real commitment.

The teams that consistently ship have three things in place:
clear expectations, structured timelines, and reliable partners who deliver consistently.

Speed matters. Planning decides who actually launches.

Design isn’t the main issue anymore. Production is.

At ICE Barcelona 2026, most studios already knew what they wanted creatively.
They were not looking for ideas. They were looking for teams who can execute without losing quality.

As Anna Spruzhevnyk, Game Producer, put it:
“Most studios already have a clear design in mind. They are more interested in whether you can reproduce it in a new project at the same level or better. In many meetings, the real focus was on process, not retention.”

Land-based really showed this shift.
More detailed art. Bigger screens. Complex animation that still has to perform smoothly.

And that’s the real challenge producers deal with:
Make it look rich. Animate everything. Keep it stable on every device, even the old ones.

Iterations happen. Mistakes happen.
What matters is how the team handles them and whether the client feels heard and in control.

Competition is high. Expectations keep rising.

AI got practical. Web3 lost the spotlight.
ICE Barcelona 2026 was basically an AI expo, but in a good way.

The vibe changed.
Less “future of gaming” talk.

More “we already shipped this, and it’s working”.
What people actually discussed on the floor:

• safer gambling tools that don’t feel like a checkbox
• CRM automation, less manual ops pain
• real-time bonus personalization based on player behavior
• AI-assisted game production, faster ideation, faster assets, faster iterations

And Web3?
Honestly, it didn’t feel like a trend anymore.

No one was pitching it as a USP.
It was mostly treated like “cool, another payment rail”.

“AI moved from abstract hype to concrete use cases: safer gambling tools, automated CRM, real-time bonus personalization. Web3 as a separate niche felt overrated.” — Oksana Zakharchuk

16/02/2026

One thing was consistent across ICE Barcelona 2026 conversations.

Studios and operators are not looking for “do the spec” teams anymore.
They are filtering for partners.

Not based on slides.
Based on how you work when the project stops being comfortable.

“Clients aren’t looking for task executors anymore. They want partners who get their business, their market, their constraints. Honest timelines beat optimistic timelines.” — Аnna Hryhorenko, Account Manager

The biggest risks people mentioned were not technical.
They were operational:
1. unclear status and decision-making
2. scope changes without re-alignment
3. no ownership when delivery starts drifting
4. timelines that sound good at the start, then collapse later

This is what “partner” means in 2026. Context, transparency and accountability.

ICE Barcelona 2026 made one thing obvious: the wall between land-based and online is gone.

Studios aren’t “porting” games anymore. They’re building ecosystems where mechanics, UX, and content can move between channels without starting from scratch.

“The best land-based mechanics are moving online. Online features are making their way to the casino floor. Studios that can design for both worlds are eating everyone else’s lunch.”
— Dmytro Derevianchenko, Partner & Head of Solutions

What this means for iGaming studios in 2026:
If your pipeline still treats retail and online as separate worlds, you’re building slower than the market.

In game development, unity means many disciplines working as one:
design, code, art, QA, production, aligned toward a shared goal.

Today, on Unity Day of Ukraine, this idea has a much deeper meaning.

Unity is what allows teams to move forward, even under pressure.
To build. To support. To stand together.

Happy Unity Day of Ukraine 🇺🇦
