The Great Barrier Reef, Australia
Although the Great Barrier Reef (aka the largest living thing on Earth) can be seen from space, the best vantage point belongs to the avid snorkelers and scuba divers who visit each year. If you must resurface, do it at the Whitsundays—namely Whitehaven Beach, often considered to be one of the world’s most beautiful beaches.

Cliffs of Moher, Ireland
Few places exemplify the raw, untamed beauty of Ireland’s west coast like this natural wonder, which tops 702 feet at the highest point. And while you might know them better as the Cliffs of Insanity from The Princess Bride, in reality, the cliffs are located just south of Galway.

Banff National Park, Canada
The best time to see the Marvel Lake's vibrant turquoise hue—created by sunlight reflecting off the rock floor—is July and August. But Banff is also home to three world-class ski resorts and is lovely during the winter.

Ipanema Beach, Brazil
Rio de Janeiro is one of Earth’s lovelier places with beaches as melodically pleasing as bossa nova songs: Copacabana, Flamengo and Ipanema. My very first pilgrimage to Ipanema will be forever emblazoned in my mind, as it offered me a sunset with the Two Brothers Peak (Dois Irmãos), carefree strolls along the wavy Portuguese pavement and the incomparable magic of Rio Carnival.

The ancient city of Petra
Carved in the rocky slopes, Petra was once the capital of Edom and later of the Nabataean Kingdom. This amazing city is lost in the rocks of Jordan, in the narrow Siq Canyon, more than 900 meters above sea level. It makes a great impression. It is impossible to believe that this miracle was created by people more than two thousand years ago. And with the first rays of the sun and at sunset, Petra glistens with scarlet and soft pink hues, for which it was nicknamed the Pink City.

You have to walk a few kilometers through the Siq Canyon to get to Petra, but it's worth it. Going beyond the walls of a dark corridor, you will see the elegant gables of the palace-mausoleum of Al-Khazneh, the fantastic monastery of Ad Deir, the spring of Moses (Ain Musa), numerous temples, colonnades, baths, and mausoleums — there are more than 800 architectural and historical monuments. All of them are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

St. John — U.S. Virgin Islands
One of the U.S. Virgin Islands, along with St. Thomas and St. Croix, St. John steals the limelight from its siblings with its natural beauty — the majority of the island is a national park. There are scenic hiking trails on forested hills and beaches like Trunk Bay, one of the Caribbean's prettiest strands. The only town, Cruz Bay, has a handful of laid-back restaurants and bars.
