Zhangye National Geopark, China
The swirl of colours that make up China's Zhangye are more reminiscent of a painter's canvas than a mountain range. Around halfway along the border between China and Mongolia, this breathtaking place is made up of eroded sandstone whipped and whisked into peaks like some kind of marbled cake batter. Visitors can climb up wooden stairs to see the view from the top – a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
