I was back on Cape Cod, Massachusetts, with a friend a few days ago to take advantage of dark and clear skies. This boardwalk aligns nicely with the Milky Way at this time of yearโ€ฆas long as youโ€™re out in the wee hours of night. A nearby lantern supplied the lighting while the Milky Way โ€œhangsโ€ over the tip of the jetty.

There was a bit of haze in the air, causing the bright stars to emit a distinct glow. The bright star at right of the Milky Way is Antares, a red supergiant star in the constellation Scorpius. The bright star at top-left of the Milky Way is Altair, a blue-white star that is one of the nearest stars to Earth visible to the naked eye.

~ Roses and Waterfalls ~

Waterfall Wednesday brought to you this time by yet another insane waterfall in Indonesia. This was easily the most difficult waterfall I've ever photographed. It required a few-mile hike into the jungle to get down to the bottom in 90+ degree heat with nearly 100% humidity. Once we reached the bottom, the spray from the falls was so intense it was as if it was raining sideways, and although it was a great way to cool down, it would completely drench your camera within seconds. This place was so amazing, and I really wish I could have done a better job photographing it, but this was the best I was able to get. Can't win 'em all, and I'm still grateful for the experience.

Lupine and the last frontier.

I've returned home once again from Alaska. Every time I visit, I love it just a little more than the last time I was there. When I describe beautiful places in America, I'll often say "this is one of the most beautiful in the lower 48" because Alaska is truly in a league of its own. It's pristine, wild, and mostly untouched. Here's a photo I took while exploring the Turnagain Arm. A buddy tipped me off about flowers being in the area, so I set out to find them, and boy did I.
