Latte macchiato (Italian latte macchiato, Italian pronunciation "latte macchiato" ['lattːe maˈkkːjaˑto] - "stained milk") is a hot coffee drink prepared by pouring espresso coffee into milk in a 3:1 ratio. The Italian word macchia refers to a small speck of coffee remaining on the surface of the milk foam.

The first espresso machine was discovered in 1901 in Milan, Italy, by an engineer on the estate of Luigi Bezzera. The machine was a horizontal boiler, filled with boiling water and steam (temperature up to 145°), which created a pressure necessary for the passage of water through special valves to dissolve the kava.

This happened in 1901; the mechanism for producing espresso was invented by Luigi Bezzera. The steam produced by the machine was used to froth milk. The result was a drink whose color combination was very reminiscent of the colors of the clothes of the Capuchin monks - dark brown and white. Hence the name cappuccino.

Americano was invented by Italians who were faced with an influx of American soldiers during World War II. The American military ordered coffee, but they did not like the Italian espresso: the cup was too small and the taste was too rich.
