KadAfrica is the vision of Eric and Rebecca Kaduru—two young entrepreneurs. Located in Fort Portal, Uganda, KadAfrica increases the knowledge, agricultural productivity, and income of smallholder farmers in East Africa. KadAfrica operates with the mission, “to empower the youth and small farmers, and equip them with new skills and techniques in production, quality packaging, and marketing for incr
eased incomes”. We began as a small horticulture project in Fort Portal, Uganda, employing a handful of farmworkers. Through relationships with local farmers and the community, it was recognized that we could create real household level change for men and women by providing them with the skills and resources necessary to generate a protected income. KadAfrica registered as a private enterprise in 2012 and began bigger-scale cultivation of passion fruit. Since then, we have expanded operations and grown our impact to reach more than 2,000 smallholders in rural Western Uganda. In 2018 we launched our non-profit, which since then, has been responsible for the implementation of the “KadAfrica Experience”; an age and gender-specific curriculum and complimentary family programming and advocacy component developed in 2015 and designed to work specifically for young women. KadAfrica promotes entrepreneurship through agriculture as it challenges the cultural stereotypes that dictate sector development in Uganda.
