An amazing start to the 3 day Campaign planning and management training for female candidates from across 6 Political Parties. The training is to equip 35 candidates to run research based and issues focused campaigns with well thought through strategies. The Christian Democratic International Center is proud to associate with these determined ladies willing to participate in competitive politics despite all the financial and societal roadblocks littered along their respective path.
mrgrt the Program Manager started it off with a great session focused on balancing between campaigns and family obligations and relationships highlighting challenges and strategies for success. Inspiring moments of sharing experiences, sad stories of struggle and calm moments of support and affirmations to each other. For many, they needed this safe space to open up and air out some of their feelings.

We also introduced campaign management by first highlighting national census and what the population numbers mean for leaders, voter and election trends in Uganda over the last 25 years and then introduced the preliminary legal requirements to run, advice on how to prepare and what a campaign requires of a candidate.

Women's participation in East African politics while showing some progress, still faces significant hurdles. While there are regional variations, women are generally underrepresented in both elected and appointed positions.

Join me on Saturday morning (8am EAT) on X spaces as I hold a conversation with 3 phenomenal ladies that are defying the odds to run in constituencies dominated by men.

We shall be talking numbers, challenges, opportunities for women in Politics and the realities in the Political space.
