I was winding up some work on my laptop before going to bed when my housemaid appeared at my bedroom door. She stood there quietly for a moment, hesitant, as if searching for the right words. Then she said softly, “Sir, I want to talk to you about something.” I half-closed my laptop and told her to go ahead.

What she said next caught me completely off guard. “I think it would be wise for us to start praying together as a family,” she said. For a few seconds I was speechless. Of all the things I expected to hear that night, that was the last thing on my mind.

I looked at her and asked, “You really think we should do that?” She nodded firmly. She explained that family is not just about eating together, laughing together, and helping each other with housework. There should also be moments when everyone comes together to seek God and pray as one.

Her words touched me deeply. Without hesitation, I closed my laptop completely and invited her inside. We knelt beside the bed and prayed together. It was a simple moment, yet it felt incredibly powerful and special, with a peace in the room I cannot fully explain.

That night reminded me that the most beautiful lessons sometimes come from the people we least expect. Wisdom can come from anyone, regardless of their position in the home. I can now say without a doubt that my housemaid is not just helping around the house she is truly a blessing to my family.

Defilement Suspect Arrested in UPDF Recruitment Drive in Lira.

A 20-year-old man accused of committing defilement has been arrested after being successfully shortlisted in the ongoing recruitment drive by the Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) in Lira City.

The suspect identified as Michael Ojok was apprehended by the UPDF recruitment team six on Monday at the Lira Recruitment center during physical screening exercises for candidates from Alebtong and Otuke districts. The resident of a resident of Agali Village, Akware Parish, Adwari Sub-County in Otuke District reportedly defiled a 16 year-old girl in 2025. A case of defilement had previously been reported to the Otuke Police Station under reference number SD 27/06/07/2025.

Koome Islands: Restoring Uganda’s Lost Indigenous Forests, One Tree at a Time
Deep in Lake Victoria, the islands of Koome Sub-county in Mukono District are home to unique indigenous forests, rare tree species and communities whose lives have long depended on the natural environment.
But these forests are disappearing.
Declining fish stocks, illegal fishing, charcoal production, timber harvesting, firewood collection, agricultural expansion and settlement are putting unprecedented pressure on Koome’s natural heritage. Rare and threatened indigenous trees—including African Mahogany, Prunus africana, Afzelia africana, Guarea cedrata and Uvariodendron magnificum—are among the species at risk.
In this documentary, we travel across the Koome Islands to explore the causes and consequences of deforestation and meet the communities working to reverse the damage.
Through giving out indigenous tree species to farmers, agroforestry, restoration of degraded land and the establishment of a one-hectare field seed bank, Hope for Nature is working with farmers, youth, women’s groups, schools, local leaders and other stakeholders to restore threatened tree species and build more sustainable livelihoods.
Meet farmers like Geoffrey Sserwadda, who is restoring land previously cleared for charcoal production and rice cultivation, and discover how communities are becoming stewards of their own forests.
From biodiversity conservation and climate resilience to soil and water protection, beekeeping and future eco-tourism opportunities, the restoration of Koome’s forests offers hope for both people and nature.
Koome’s forests are more than trees—they are life, livelihood and a legacy for future generations.
