Jeg, Kamilla Selseth, tilbrakte julen 2017 i Uganda, Afrika. Der feiret jeg og min familie julaften på barnehjemmet Kikaya House. Jeg ble så glad i barna og atmosfæren at jeg bestemte for å komme tilbake og tilbringe flere dager der. Jeg dro derfor tilbake og jobbet som frivillig i en liten uke. Barna er helt unike og gjør sterke inntrykk. Det bor 16 barn der, i aldersgruppen 3 måneder til 9 år.
Barnehjemmet ble opprettet tidlig 2017, hvor de fikk første lille jente allerede i Februar 2017. Det er derfor et nytt barnehjem, men har allerede 16 barn. De har mulighet til frivillighetsarbeid, og har bygd et stort hus spesielt til frivillige. Det er flere som har jobbet som frivillig hos dem, men bare spanske kvinner og menn. De har også en spansk donor.
Dette barnehjemmet ble oppfattet som veldig seriøst. Det er ikke som andre. Alle barn som får flytte inn blir tatt vare på som et eget barn. Ideologien er ikke en institusjon, men et hjem for barn som ikke har det - noe de allerede har klart. Fylt med kjærlighet. De blir juridisk adoptert av grunnleggeren av barnehjemmet, og får hans etternavn. Han gjør dette for å sikre barndommen og fremtiden til barna. De har flere prosjekt på gården, hvor de har et mål om å bli selvforsynt med fisk, kjøtt og jordbruk. De er enda i oppbygningsfasen, men jeg har fått vært med å se alle prosjektene og ideene de har - og det er imponerende. De har lagt opp til at barna vil få forskjellige interesser når de vokser opp, hvor noen vil like å jobbe ute med dyrene, noen liker ha kontroll på jordbruket og noen regne matte.
Det jeg vil er derfor å hjelpe dette barnehjemmet med å gi venner og familie informasjon og mulighet til å arbeide frivillig der. Jeg har fortsatt kontakt med de som jobber på barnehjemmet og hovedmannen bak dette barnehjemmet og prosjektet.
Om jeg har noen venner eller familie som har lyst å bruke litt tid på noe helt forskjellig fra hverdagen vår, noe som er givende og lærerikt - ønsker jeg å være behjelpelig. Det kan være en måte å bruke ferien sin på, ta en uke ifra en hektisk hverdag eller bruke som en start på noe større.

I spent my 2017 Christmas holiday in Uganda, Africa. Me and my family celebrated Christmas Eve at the orphanage Kikaya House. I got so fond of the kids and the atmosphere that I wanted to come back to spend more days there. I went back and worked as a volunteer for a week, and it was so nice. The kids there are completely unique and make strong impressions. There are 16 children, in the age of 3 months to 9 years.
The orphanage was established early in 2017, where they started with a little girl in February and other kids where taken in as time went by to make current number. It is a fairly new orphanage with 16 children currently and it is being supported by a Spanish organization, Babies Uganda. There is an opportunity for you to also volunteer, because there is a built up guest house for volunteers. There have been several volunteer workers there, but only Spanish women and men.
I considered this orphanage as very seriously. It's one of a kind. All of these children who move in are taken care of as their own child. The ideology is not an institution but a home for children who do not have it - something they have done. Filled with love. They are legally adopted by the founder of the orphanage and receive his last name. He does this to ensure their childhood and the future of the kids. They have several projects at the orphaned such as the farm, where they have a goal of becoming self-sufficient with fish, meat and agriculture. They are still in the construction phase, but I've been seeing all the projects and ideas they have - and it`s impressive. They understand that the children will have different interests when they grow up, where some will like to work out with the animals and some will like to have control over agriculture.
What I want is therefore to help this orphanages to give my friends and family information and the opportunity to work voluntarily there. I have near contact with many from Kikaya House, including the Executive Director.
If I have any friends or family who would like to spend some time on something completely different from our everyday life, which is rewarding and educative - i would love to help. It can be a way to spend Your vacation, take a week off from the busy life or use as a start on something bigger.
