Permission to Become - TM Life's transitions aren't the end of your story. They're the beginning of your becoming.

Permission to Become has required me to face a hard truth: perfectionism is a prison.

For most of my life, I've held myself to impossible standards, believing I needed to get everything right before I could move forward. But I've learned that growth doesn't happen when we're waiting for perfection. It happens when we're willing to risk failure, learn along the way, and keep going anyway.

I'm still a perfectionist, but I'm learning to let go of the fear that every mistake means I've failed. I'd rather take the chance of falling short than stay stuck where I am. Because on the other side of perfectionism is freedom, growth, and the opportunity to build a life I'm genuinely happy living.

✨ Give yourself permission to become.

And if this resonates with you, stay tuned. I've been spending a lot of time exploring these ideas and look forward to sharing more of what I'm learning in the near future.

Where It All Begins 🦋

I've been reflecting on the first stage of transformation, and I keep coming back to the butterfly's life cycle.

Every butterfly begins as an egg.

Small.

Dependent.

Unaware of what's possible.

The egg stage reminds me of our own beginnings:

The homes we grew up in.

The people who raised us.

The experiences that shaped us.

The beliefs we inherited.

The stories we learned about ourselves.

When I think back to my younger self, I see someone doing the best she could with the understanding she had at the time. I had ideas about who I was and who I would become. Some were true. Others were simply beliefs I had not yet outgrown.

From a mindful perspective, our early experiences matter. They influence how we see ourselves, others, and the world around us.

Yet awareness gives us something powerful: the ability to examine those beliefs instead of unconsciously living by them.

Our origin story shapes us.

But it does not define us.

Self awareness invites us to notice where we've come from without becoming trapped there. It encourages self-compassion for who we were and curiosity about who we're still becoming.

Because transformation is rarely a single breakthrough moment.

It's a process.

A journey of growing, shedding, learning, and becoming.

And every transformation begins somewhere.

I'd love to hear your thoughts:
When you look back at your younger self, what beliefs, experiences, or lessons had the greatest impact on the person you are today?

✨ Every butterfly begins as an egg.

Every journey of becoming begins with permission to become self aware. 🦋❤️

If you want to know why I started this journey and created this idea- well- it’s simple.

I know I cannot be alone in dealing with life’s transitions and wanting more out of the next chapters of my life.

But also being afraid of what lies behind the door ahead.

If I don’t accomplish much in this venture- messages like Mary’s make it worth it.

I asked Mary for permission to share this private message and she was gracious to allow it.

Dear Whitney -
I came across your Permission to Become page on facebook as I’m recovering from a bad virus.
I just want to thank you so very much!
You immediately touched me with your warmth and genuine honesty.
As I sat here reading your posts, you hit on many of the same things I deal with.
One in particular hit so close to home.
Grief.
There’s so much built up inside of me regarding the profound loss of someone who I loved with my whole heart and soul.
I’ve been stuck in this grief.
Never in my life has any other death of a loved one shattered me the way this one has.
I’m just literally stuck and don’t know how to help myself.
I did initially go to grief therapy which did not help.
I don’t know of any resources for my kind of grief or counseling,
I’ve worked in health care my whole life …. I automatically look for ways to comfort others just as most every health care professional does.
I know how to help others, but this ….. I just can’t seem to help myself.

I’m going to read all of your existing posts and each new one that comes out. Maybe there’s a way for me to move past my sorrow.
Thank you again for being here!
I love the content!
You’re putting out something very important and REAL.

Sincerely,
Mary Czekalski

We all have been a Mary at some point! Let’s continue to share, encourage and think of one another. If you are a person of faith then I will always encourage prayer as well! 🦋❤️

Burnout doesn't always look like falling apart.

Sometimes it looks like holding everything together.

Showing up. Taking care of everyone. Getting the work done.

And slowly losing yourself in the process.

The danger of burnout is that it often goes unnoticed, especially by the person experiencing it.

You tell yourself you're just busy. Just tired. Just pushing through.

Until one day you realize you've been running on empty for far too long.

Here's what I've learned:

If you are not good for yourself, eventually you cannot be good for the people who love you most.

Your children need your presence, not your perfection.

Your spouse needs your partnership, not your exhaustion.

The people you love don't benefit when you sacrifice yourself until there's nothing left to give.

Rest isn't selfish.

Boundaries aren't selfish.

Taking care of yourself isn't selfish.

It may be one of the most loving things you can do.

✨ Sometimes healing begins when you give yourself permission to choose yourself.

Let's talk about the messy in-between.

The place between who you were and who you're becoming.

What transition are you navigating right now?

A career change?

Parenthood?

Marriage?

Divorce?

Grief?

Burnout?

Starting over?

I'd love to hear your story. ❤️
