As a designer, I take notice when I come across good design, especially when it has as notable of a history as this example seen on the shirt of Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Aside from being a very well designed symbol, the Ukrainian Coat of Arms is considered a trident, or tryzub, and has a long history. It was first developed in the 10th century under the Rurik dynasty. Archaeologists have found the symbol on coins, seals, utensils, bricks and murals. Its symbolism is unclear. But many theories abound, including references to the trinity, a bow and arrows, candlesticks, an anchor, and falcon’s wings. In 1996 it was enshrined in the Constitution and officially became a symbol of Ukraine. The symbol is proudly worn today by Zelenskyy, as well as Ukrainian soldiers protecting their country.
