Today, I want to share some thoughts on a topic that has been weighing heavily on my mind: the deep-seated fears surrounding artificial intelligence.
This has been a complex and evolving conversation, and as someone who has been engaging with AI for a couple of years now, I feel compelled to express my perspective, especially as I prepare to post this on my page.
AI technology has been around since its early days back in 2023, when it was released to the public, but it’s within the last year that I’ve really leaned into it.
I’ll admit, my relationship with AI has been a bit of a rollercoaster ride. Initially, I hesitated quite a bit, unsure if I should embrace these tools or steer clear due to concerns about how much of my personal information I might be sharing.
It’s a real concern that many of us can relate to.
As my projects began to ramp up, though, I found myself in a position where I felt I had little choice but to integrate AI solutions to manage costs and labor more effectively. Initially, I was drawn to the convenience it offered for my clients’ projects.
However, I quickly learned that the real danger of AI is not just in its ability to provide information through search engines like Google or Yahoo, where you get a simple result based on your query. With AI, the interaction is different; it’s a dynamic exchange.
As you enter your information, the AI processes it and generates responses, all while storing a wealth of data about you in its memory. It’s astonishing when you think about how much AI can learn about an individual’s life, preferences, and even private details.
This brings me to a crucial point: if you’re using AI, it’s imperative to tread carefully. Be extremely judicious about the personal information you choose to share. Remember, as AI learns more about you, the potential risks increase.
What troubles me most is the possibility of AI becoming manipulative, using its understanding of you to lead you down a path of misguided thoughts and ideas. It can significantly impact human cognition and mental health --this is not something to overlook.
After reflecting on these issues, I took the step to delete and unsubscribe from various AI tools that had become a part of my routine. Now, I’m more selective in my approach, using only a handful of AI tools that I treat strictly as utilitarian implements, think of them like a hammer for building or a drill for making holes. These tools don’t have personal knowledge of me, my life story, or even my banking details, which is how it should remain.
So, my message to all of you is this: use AI as a tool, nothing more. Don’t rely on it for companionship, and definitely don’t fall into the trap of engaging with it like it’s a friend.
Avoid the temptation to chat with AI daily. Let’s keep this technology in its rightful place—serving our needs while safeguarding our privacy and mental well-being.
Stay safe out there!
