Water is my inspiration. Water is a part of my life. On the water…

It can be a lake, a river, a small stream, water is always with me and
I must be near it. I was blessed to grow up on a large, 10 miles across, lake that linked the Great Lakes of Huron and Erie together. As a little girl, I yearned to hear and see the large freighters early in the morning, blowing their horns to pass safely in the fog, from my bedroom window. Since I was fifteen, with my first 35

mm camera , I took over my big brother’s darkroom, when he left for college and taught myself how to develop film and make prints. In high school, I joined the camera club, and changed my senior thesis from art to photography. After one year of college, studying art, my heart was not in it. I left and settled at a school where I could study and learn photography fulltime. Upon graduation and my return back to Michigan, I entered juried shows and exhibitions. Marriage, a job and a baby had me place my camera on the back burner. I am back… I have come back kicking and screaming into this digital world of ours and have learned to embrace the change. The four seasons and their effect upon any body of water is glorious. Even the clouds change when they are over the water. I love when it is windy and the water changes color with each little puff. I love when it rains, as it storms across the water. I love when the water is frozen and a new world appears. Northern Lower Michigan, continues to inspire my work. I live on a small river. I am only minutes from the big water of Lake Michigan or Lake Huron. Within these waters are the images, the objects, the boats, the birds and the animals that I love and help make this watery universe mine. This is where you will find my heart and my soul.

DN North American Regatta Update – UNDER POSTPONEMENT

By Deb Whitehorse on January 23, 2026

Regatta Update – Postponement and Site Decision
Late this afternoon, the Board held a scheduled call with our weather service. The forecast has changed materially since earlier predictions, with significantly more snow now expected on Sunday, January 25 in the SYRACUSE, INDIANA area.

Based on this updated information, we are postponing both check-in and racing scheduled for Sunday, January 25.

What this means now

Sunday, January 25: No check-in or racing.

A final decision on whether we remain at Lake Wawasee or relocate to GREEN LAKE, WISC will be announced by 5:00 PM on Sunday, January 25, or sooner if conditions allow.

This decision is dependent on observed snowfall amounts, ice conditions, and forecast confidence.

Schedule going forward

If we remain at Lake Wawasee:
Monday, January 26: Check-in from 3:00–5:00 PM (as stated in the Notice of Race)
Tuesday, January 27, 2025: First day of racing at the time stated in the Sailing Instructions

If we relocate to Green Lake, Wisconsin:
Monday, January 26: Check-in from 3:00–5:00 PM
Tuesday, January 27, 2025: First day of racing at the time stated in the Sailing Instructions

Green Lake note:
Sunday, January 25: Ranked sailors will be sailing at Green Lake, Wisconsin.

We understand the disruption this creates for travel and planning. This decision was made to preserve the integrity of the racing and to avoid committing competitors and volunteers to conditions that may not be raceable.

Please continue to monitor official communications. Updates will be issued as soon as decisions are made. Thank you for your patience.

Pleasetake the survey - we need rail service to//from Up North!

Skip the traffic, ride the rails: Michigan’s new passenger train project needs your input. The plan would connect southeast Michigan, mid-Michigan, and the northwest Lower Peninsula, making travel across the state more convenient. (link in comments)
