Meet Rich Bailey. Rich is the new lead designer at Ink Nation and comes in with an extensive resume. We are proud to welcome Rich to the team.
Education:
BS degree in graphic design from Oregon State University.
Experience:
Rich grew up around drag racing, helping local racers Nyles Klampe and Gary Lewis while in high school. It was then that Rich tried his hand at lettering and began lettering local race cars and track signs for Woodburn Dragstrip. By being in the right place at the right time, Rich did a lettering job for Don "the Snake" Prudhomme after introducing himself to him at a Portland car show. "It was a dream come true. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I would get to do work for the Snake whom I idolized as a kid". He also did a couple of jobs for road-weary drag racing superstar John Force.
When computers largely took over the hand-lettering business, Rich began designing race cars, and six of the cars he designed were replicated as diecast cars he jokingly refers to as his "hit records". "The first time I saw a car I designed made into a diecast car and sold at Toys R Us, it was quite a thrill that something which came out of my head was for sale in stores nationwide", he said. His "hit records" include cars for Cristin Powell, Rhonda Hartman, Dean Skuza, Gary Densham, and Jim Epler, who he credits for being a big help and influence throughout his career.
In addition to designing, Rich has worked professionally for several pro NHRA teams at the track, including a five-year stint with Justin Ashley, two seasons with Tuttle Motorsports with then driver Jack Beckman, and, most recently Joe Morrison, whom he will be helping this year on a part-time basis. In addition, Bailey also did public relations work for over 20 years for Duane Shields' Muscle Milk A/Fuel Dragster Team. "I was with Duane till the end. I will miss no longer working with him".
If that's not enough, Rich owns and drives a Blown Alcohol Dragster and is celebrating 26 years with his primary sponsor Capitol Auto Group in Salem. Rich's best time is a 6.76 at over 206 MPH, which he races on the Blown Alcohol Thunder Circuit. Rich is married to wife, Susan, and they have two grown children.
