Adobe announced Thursday that Anil Chakravarthy will succeed Shantanu Narayen as president and CEO, effective Dec. 1, as the software giant seeks to navigate the industry’s shift into the artificial intelligence era. Chakravarthy, who most recently led Adobe’s customer experience orchestration business, will also join the company’s board. Chakravarthy will take the reins at a pivotal moment for the software industry, as AI startups gain ground and investors increasingly question whether established business models can withstand the disruption, dubbed the “SaaSpocalypse.” Adobe’s stock has dropped 18% year to date, while the S&P 500 has climbed 13%.
