Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and everyone at the Jim Wells County Sheriff’s Office.

Thank you for a lifetime of service. Major Barrera 🙏🏻

It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of Major Juan Barrera, who left us this morning. Major Barrera was a dedicated public servant, committed to the citizens of Jim Wells County throughout his esteemed career.

His service to the community began at the Alice Police Department from 1969 to 1978, followed by a remarkable tenure at the Jim Wells County Sheriff’s Office from 1979 to 2006. He then served as Reserve Constable for Jim Wells County, PCT 1, from 2006 to 2007. In addition to his contributions to law enforcement, Major Barrera was a proud veteran, having served in the United States military during the Vietnam War.

Major Barrera's commitment and service will be fondly remembered, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Our hearts and prayers go out to his family during this difficult time.
