Public Service Announcement
Attention everyone: Last Friday, my family experienced the terrifying reality of "swatting," a dangerous prank where someone falsely reports an emergency at your home, leading to a heavily armed police and swat response. This included multiple first responders. It was unsettling and frightening ordeal. Thankfully, no one was physically hurt, but the emotional trauma for our family was immense.
This incident highlights the serious dangers of swatting, a growing trend with potentially deadly consequences. Anyone can be targeted, and the emotional and psychological effects can be severe, even if no physical harm occurs.
In the midst of this chaos, I want to express our deepest gratitude to Doug Herendeen of WRTA Radio. His approach to reporting our story was a breath of fresh air. Unlike sensationalized media coverage, Doug focused on the facts with empathy and understanding, giving voice to our experience with respect and integrity. Other news stations, TV, and Police focused on a simple press release. Doug carefully navigated our family's complex emotions and thoughtfully captured the true essence of what was experienced.
To raise awareness about the dangers of swatting and the importance of responsible reporting, Doug has made the full interview available on the WRTA website and as a podcast. It's a testament to his commitment to responsible journalism and his respect for the truth. Doug, thank you for your no-nonsense reporting and for treating our family's experience with the seriousness it deserves.
Listening to our story can help others understand the real-life impact of this dangerous prank.
Please visit the WRTA website and listen to the interview that aired today.
