June is National Homeownership Month
And for Alaska REALTORS®, it’s a powerful reminder that homeownership is more than a transaction—it’s a cornerstone of strong, stable communities.
But right now, America is facing a housing crisis.
We’re short 5.5 million homes nationwide, with a staggering $4.4 trillion underinvestment in housing development. If we want to make homeownership more accessible for more families—we have to build.
That’s why the National Association of REALTORS® is leading the charge on Capitol Hill, advocating for real solutions to close the inventory gap, support first-time buyers, and protect fair housing access for all.
Here’s what we’re fighting for:
🏡 More Homes on the Market Act (H.R. 1340)
Incentivizes long-term homeowners to sell by decreasing the equity penalty.
🔨 Neighborhood Homes Investment Act (H.R. 2854)
Attracts private investment to build and rehab owner-occupied homes.
🏘️ Affordable Housing Credit Improvement Act (S. 1515 / H.R. 2725)
Encourages development and preservation of affordable housing units.
📈 Housing Supply and Affordability Acts (H.R. 2840 / S. 1299)
Creates a national strategy to boost housing production and cut red tape.
🏙️ Revitalizing Downtowns and Main Streets Act (H.R. 2410)
Transforms underused commercial space into new housing opportunities.
🔑 Uplifting First-Time Homebuyers Act (awaiting bill number)
Expands how much buyers can withdraw penalty-free from their IRA for a first-home down payment.
💼 Support for Small Business & Commercial Investment:
Preserve the 199A Qualified Business Income Deduction
Protect 1031 Like-Kind Exchanges
Raise the $10,000 SALT deduction cap and eliminate the marriage penalty
✊ We’re also committed to equity in housing:
+ Support the Fair and Equal Housing Act to protect sexual orientation and gender identity under the Fair Housing Act
+ Ensure veterans can compete in the market by allowing VA buyers to directly compensate their REALTOR®
+ Back the 3by30 Initiative to add 3 million new Black homeowners by 2030
🎯 At Alaska REALTORS®, we know that advocacy = impact.
We’re proud to stand with NAR to push for bold solutions that expand access to homeownership—for every Alaskan and every American.
