🚨 INDIANA DISASTER RECOVERY UPDATE: FEMA ASSISTANCE NOW AVAILABLE
THPR Group, LLC is sharing important information for Indiana communities, local governments, first responders, businesses and residents impacted by the August 2026 severe storms, derecho and historic flooding.
President Donald Trump has approved a Major Disaster Declaration for Indiana, opening additional federal resources to assist with recovery from the devastating storms and flooding that began August 11.
For Hoosiers in counties designated for FEMA Individual Assistance, this means eligible homeowners and renters may now apply directly to FEMA for disaster assistance.
🇺🇸 APPLY FOR FEMA DISASTER ASSISTANCE
If you live in an eligible county and sustained disaster-related damage or losses, you can begin the FEMA application process online:
You may also apply or receive assistance by calling:
☎️ FEMA Helpline: 1-800-621-3362
Before applying, residents should consider gathering information that may be needed during the process, including:
• Identification and contact information
• Address of the damaged property
• Insurance information, if applicable
• Documentation showing the property is your primary residence
• Photographs and videos of disaster damage
• Receipts for emergency repairs, temporary lodging, cleanup and other disaster-related expenses
• Banking information if you choose direct deposit
⚠️ CHECK YOUR COUNTY'S ELIGIBILITY
A Presidential Major Disaster Declaration does not necessarily mean every county or every type of assistance is automatically included.
Residents should verify that their county has been designated for Individual Assistance and follow official FEMA and Indiana Department of Homeland Security information as additional counties or programs may be added.

📋 REPORTING DAMAGE AND APPLYING FOR FEMA ARE DIFFERENT PROCESSES
One of the most important messages local jurisdictions can communicate right now is that previously reporting storm or flood damage to your local government, emergency management agency or Indiana 2-1-1 does NOT automatically create a FEMA application.
If your county has been approved for FEMA Individual Assistance, you must apply directly with FEMA to be considered for federal Individual Assistance.
Likewise, residents should continue following instructions from their local Emergency Management Agency regarding local damage reporting and recovery resources.
🏠 WHAT CAN FEMA INDIVIDUAL ASSISTANCE HELP WITH?
Depending on eligibility and individual circumstances, FEMA's Individuals and Households Program may provide assistance for disaster-related needs such as temporary housing, certain home repairs and other serious needs that are not covered by insurance.
FEMA assistance is not intended to compensate residents for every disaster-related loss, and assistance cannot duplicate benefits already provided by insurance or another source.
🏢 BUSINESS OWNERS
FEMA Individual Assistance is primarily intended to assist individuals and households and does not cover business losses in the same manner.
Business owners impacted by the disaster should follow information from FEMA, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), Indiana officials and their local Emergency Management Agency regarding disaster assistance programs available to businesses.
The recovery process following a disaster of this magnitude will take time.
Local governments, emergency management agencies, first responders, nonprofit organizations, churches, businesses and volunteers across Indiana continue working to help communities recover.
Please share official information with your neighbors, employees, customers, family members and especially those who may not regularly use social media.
The declaration is an important step forward, but now we have to make sure the people who need assistance know where to find it and how to apply.
At THPR Group, LLC, we believe effective disaster communication means getting the right information, to the right people, at the right time.
Continue following your local Emergency Management Agency and trusted state and federal sources for information specific to your community.
