Constantly grateful how many people baby moon in Maui and choose me to be their photographer. The connection I have with fellow mamas and mamas to be is such a sacred one. Sometimes you love to just gush about pregnancy experiences and motherhood.. and sometimes you just need someone to validate and understand how you are feeling. Either way, capturing women becoming mothers has become one of my favorite types of sessions.

Motherhood isn’t easy, but it is oh so sweet.

I struggle everyday to try and be a better mother than I was yesterday. I lose my cool way too often, I don’t have the amount of patience I wish I had, I stress too much about my other responsibilities getting done. And it breaks my heart knowing another year has gone by, and while my kids are still little - they are growing up, and each day passed is another day I won’t get back with them.

I feel like each night I’m mad at myself for taking the day for granted and rushing through the day instead of just being present with them.

I try to place reminders in my day that force me to slow down and remember to just be. I listen to parenting books that motivate me to connect more with my sons, understand them more so I can practice more patience. I read quotes that remind me how fleeting the moments are. And I photograph young moms who are experiencing all of this for the first time. The sweet peace they feel before their littles arrive, and the loving chaos their family becomes after. None of us know what we are doing. Even by the time the second kid comes along. But everyday we are learning, improving, being humbled, and trying again.

I’ll always have a soft spot and love for elopements. There’s just something about the intimacy of eloping.

In 2020 my husband and I had to scale back our wedding - we were so excited to have everyone out to experience Maui the week leading up to our wedding. It was going to be beautiful. But with the state of the world, we were forced to change our plans. We made the decision to elope, and although a little piece of me will always be heart broken not getting to have my dream wedding, I surprisingly loved our elopement with just our officiant and photographer. I’m not one to like a lot of attention on me so I feel like the elopement was what was meant to be with my more reserved personality - Being in a more relaxed and enjoyable space. We had more time just the two of us getting all of my dream wedding photos, something that would have never happened on a busy timeline-driven, full wedding day. I wasn’t mentally exhausted, battery depleted by the end of the day and my husband and I got to just fully enjoy eachother’s presence.

As a mom of two now, I’m already sad thinking about my kids getting older. And how my oldest will be off to school soon and I’ll see him less and less. Moments like these become rarer and rarer as kids get older and older. Capturing these moments of enjoying this sweet time together is so important. 🤍 take the photos.
