From one milestone to the next.

Today, we celebrated Caden’s promotion from Williamsburg Middle School. And while I’m still processing Jackson’s graduation from last week, somehow we’re already onto the next milestone.

Somewhere between sixth grade orientation and today’s promotion ceremony, she grew into a confident, kind, funny young woman, and I’m still not entirely sure how that happened so fast.

Watching her stand at the podium, surrounded by incredible friends, was one of those parenting moments that sneaks up on you. One minute you’re helping organize carpools and checking homework. The next, you’re wondering how high school starts in August.

Also, apparently middle school isn’t awkward anymore. These girls are proof.

Congratulations to the Williamsburg Class of 2026. And a special shoutout to Mr. Boykin, who spent three years with this crew and absolutely earned that W.

Yorktown, you’re up next. 💙🤍

Our baby is officially a Yorktown High School graduate. 🎓

Yesterday we watched Jackson walk across that stage to collect his diploma. When we think about everything he achieved over these four years - all the hard work, the growth, and the wins both big and small - our hearts could honestly burst. Marc and I have never been prouder.

This fall he’s off to UVA. We’re going to miss having him under our roof, but we cannot wait to watch what he does next. Go Hoos! 🧡💙

Huge thanks to everyone who showed up to celebrate him: Nana Connie, Papa Bob, Nana Ellen, Aunt Julie and his sister Caden, who tolerated yet another day of Jackson fanfare with remarkable grace.

One down, one to go. 😅

What does it really mean to show up in your community? For Westville Clarendon, it has meant forging real connections that almost doubled their weekly sales, and brought new loyal customers through the door. 💚

Over the past 4 months, partnering with local groups like , , , and has been key. We’ve catered events for these amazing organizations and hosted gatherings with the .artists.alliance , local apartment communities, Booz Allen Hamilton, and .

A highlight was handing out postcards offering a discount and free drink at Music by the Metro, leading to a 40% sales boost that very night! 🍹

Westville even kicked off a monthly happy hour for the a perfect fit for their core audience of active people who value nutritious, delicious food. 🏃‍♀️

Their participation in Arlington’s first annual Clarendon FitFest, the Cherry Blossom Celebration, and a year-end event for GMU professors has expanded their reach even further.

This isn’t about flashy ads or empty impressions. It’s about weaving into Arlington’s community fabric, where people know your name, trust your brand, and choose you time after time.

Thinking about what community-driven growth could look like for your business? Let’s connect and make it happen. 📲

If you want your local business to thrive, become more visible, build stronger customer loyalty, and create long-term trust in your community, below are the strategies where I would focus your energy.

One of the biggest misconceptions I see from local businesses is the belief that community involvement only matters if you’re writing a huge sponsorship check.

After years of working in local marketing throughout Arlington, I’ve implemented these strategies with enormous success, and have seen firsthand that the businesses growing the most are usually the ones creating authentic community connections consistently over time.

Here are a few strategies I recommend often:

• Donate gift cards for raffles, volunteer appreciation events, or nonprofit auctions. It keeps your business visible without requiring a huge budget.

• Host small networking events, community nights, or happy hours. People remember businesses that create spaces for connection.

• Cross-promote nonprofits and local organizations on social media. Shared audiences help everyone grow, and community support builds trust quickly.

• Offer services instead of only financial support. Photography, printing, food, meeting space, volunteers, and marketing support can make a huge impact for nonprofits.

• Introduce people to each other. Honestly, this may be the most valuable one. Great partnerships, sponsorships, collaborations, and opportunities often start with a simple introduction.

The businesses thriving locally right now are the ones showing up consistently and investing in meaningful community relationships.

People want to support businesses that support their community.

And from a marketing perspective, that kind of trust is incredibly valuable.

Happy birthday to my partner in crime of over 20 years. The one who committed before fully reading the terms and conditions.

You’ve spent the last two decades showing up to more events than anyone should reasonably attend, confidently shuffling cards while I win at Gin Rummy, treating puzzles like a competitive sport, and maintaining an unwavering commitment to your lifelong Benihana birthday tradition (a choice I continue to question annually).

Somehow, in between all of that, you’ve also been an incredible dad. Watching you with the kids over the years has been one of the greatest gifts, and as we head into this next chapter, I know that role will only keep evolving in the best way.

Here’s to another year of puzzles, concerts, canvassing, family time, and you continuing to keep things interesting… including in the aisles of Target.

Wouldn’t want to do any of this with anyone else ❤️

Happy birthday,
