Real World Wildlife Products Whitetail Deer Habitat and Land Management Solutions including Food Plot Seed, Native Grass, Screen

Real World Wildlife Products was founded by real world deer hunters seeking to find the very best foodplot seed products for use on their own properties. After years of frustration using various brands of foodplot seed on the market, they teamed up with an established seed company to begin testing, developing, researching and marketing a new line of wildlife foodplot seeds. Their goal from day-one has been to put out the very best quality products possible and market them at a fair price.

TAKE A WALK THROUGH YOUR FOOD PLOTS THIS WEEK.

Don't just look at them from the truck.

Get out and actually walk through them.

Look for:

• Germination and plant density
• Signs of heavy browsing
• Bare or thin areas
• W**d competition
• Soil moisture
• Differences between protected plants and plants exposed to deer

One of the best ways to become a better land manager is simply spending more time observing what's happening on your property.

And don't be discouraged if your plot doesn't look like a magazine cover.

The real question isn't, "How pretty is my food plot?"

It's, "Is it accomplishing what I planted it to accomplish?"

Drop a picture of your fall plots in the comments. We'd love to see what everyone has growing.

NOT ALL CORN IS CREATED EQUAL.

When most hunters think about corn, they think about attraction during hunting season.

We think about what happens long before opening day.

NutriCrave Corn was developed specifically with wildlife in mind. It's about providing a food source deer want to consume while making nutrition part of the equation.

That's the Real World approach.

We don't just want to grow something deer will eat.

We want to help landowners provide better nutrition throughout the year and grow healthier deer.

If you're planting corn specifically for wildlife, shouldn't you plant corn designed with wildlife in mind?

WHERE DID MY FOOD PLOT GO?

You planted it. It germinated beautifully. It looked great.

Then September arrived and suddenly it looks like the deer are trying to destroy it.

That can actually be a good problem to have.

As natural food sources change and deer begin adjusting their feeding patterns, pressure on highly palatable food plots can increase dramatically.

This is why we talk so much about TONNAGE.

A food plot isn't successful just because it looks beautiful from the road. It needs to produce enough quality forage to withstand the amount of browsing pressure on your property.

If your plots are getting hammered, pay attention.

Your deer may be telling you exactly how important that food source has become.

Those are some great looking beans

I got this photo sent to me by a consulting client recently of his Real World Wildlife Products Generation-2 soybeans. A couple of things stand out to me in the photo. First, this is a fantastic stand of soybeans. They are chest-high and loaded with pods. This plot will attract and feed a lot of deer this fall and winter. Second, this plot is w**d free. I often hear land managers say something like “I have to plant enlist soybeans because I have a waterhemp problem on my property”. No you don’t! I have waterhemp on my property also. You just have to do a couple of things; use the right preemergent herbicide and spray w**ds post emergent when w**ds are less than 4”. Deviate from this and you will likely get some w**ds in your soybeans. With all the rain we have had this year w**d control has been a challenge but my plots of Gen-2 soybeans have very few w**ds. It might take a little bit more management effort to grow glyphosate tolerant Gen-2 soybeans than enlist or other gmo trained soybeans but the attraction difference makes it worth it.

If I could only plant one plant species in my plots the choice would be easy … SOYBEANS! From the time they germinate in the spring until the last grain is consumed in late winter, they are a fantastic source of protein and other essential nutrients and highly attractive to whitetails. As proof of the benefits of Real World Wildlife Products Gen-2 soybeans, sales have increased every year since they were released 19 years ago. Can any other product in the entire hunting industry make that claim? Those who chose to plant Gen-2 soybeans in their plots last spring will be glad they did and reap the benefits this season. There really is a difference.

SEPTEMBER IS AN IMPORTANT MONTH TO KEEP WATCHING YOUR DEER HERD.

Late summer and early fall are traditionally important times to remain aware of Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease, commonly known as EHD.

If EHD is occurring in an area, sick or dead deer are often discovered near water because affected animals may seek water during the later stages of illness.

If you find a deer you suspect may have died from EHD, contact your state wildlife agency and follow its recommendations for reporting suspected cases.

At Real World Wildlife Products, improving deer health through better nutrition has always been an important part of what we do.

That's also why we developed Expect Healthy Deer Technology.

Good deer management starts with paying attention to the health of the entire herd—not just the bucks we hope to hunt this fall.

WHAT ARE YOUR DEER EATING RIGHT NOW?

September can be one of the most interesting transition periods of the entire year.

Agricultural crops are maturing.

Early acorns may begin hitting the ground.

Native vegetation is changing.

And those beautiful green food plots you've worked all summer to prepare are starting to become increasingly important.

Pay attention to what your trail cameras are telling you.

A food source that was covered with deer two weeks ago may suddenly go quiet when another preferred food becomes available.

That doesn't necessarily mean something is wrong.

Whitetails are constantly adjusting their feeding patterns based on what provides the best combination of nutrition, availability, security and palatability.

What's the hottest food source on your property right now?

Tell us in the comments and include what state you're hunting.

Making a good stand great with bedding and food nearby

The big boys are starting to use the new bridge. Unless pressured, deer will generally take the path of least resistance. This creek separates a bedding field of Real World Wildlife Products switchgrass and giant miscanthus on one side from a major food plot on the other. The deer would cross this creek in multiple places as they traveled between the bedding cover and food. By creating a couple of these creek crossings several hundred yards apart this travel has been concentrated and in the process has created some great stand and blind locations for hunting various wind directions. Concentrating deer movement is a key part of turning good stand sites into great stand sites and often is the difference in seeing a good buck and shooting a good buck.

IT’S NOT TOO LATE.

If you haven’t planted your fall food plots yet, don’t panic just because the calendar says September.

In many areas, September can still provide an excellent planting window—especially when you can time planting with good soil moisture and rain in the forecast.

One of the biggest mistakes we see is planting based solely on a date on the calendar instead of paying attention to conditions.

Good seed-to-soil contact, adequate moisture, proper fertility, and the right seed blend can make a huge difference.

If your plots aren't in yet, you may still have plenty of time.

Don't plant because the calendar tells you to.

Plant when the conditions give your food plot the best opportunity to succeed.

**EXPECT HEALTHY DEER**

Last year around this time, areas across Indiana, Ohio, Iowa and other parts of the Midwest were being hit hard by EHD. For landowners and deer managers, watching a healthy deer herd suddenly impacted by disease can be devastating.

There is a lot of debate surrounding EHD — what we can do, what we can’t do, and how much control we really have when an outbreak occurs.

But there is one thing that shouldn’t be up for debate:

The healthier we can make our deer herd, the better prepared those deer are to face the challenges nature throws at them.
That philosophy is behind Expect Healthy Deer Technology.

It’s not about claiming we can prevent EHD. It’s about focusing on something we CAN influence — providing deer with quality nutrition and supporting overall herd health throughout the year.

At Real World Wildlife Products, we believe deer management should be about more than growing bigger antlers. It should be about growing and maintaining a healthier deer herd.

That’s why Expect Healthy Deer Technology is incorporated into select Real World nutritional products.

Healthy soil. Better nutrition. Healthier deer.
