SCOUTED | There’s clean… and then there’s Paint & Petrol clean. ✨
Paint + Petrol Auto Detailing

Owner Nathaniel DuPont is known for his remarkable attention to detail—and it shows in every vehicle he touches. From full details and deep interior cleans to ceramic coatings and meticulous washes, Nate approaches every car with the kind of care you’d expect if it were his own.

In fact, he’s known for leaving clients little “Easter eggs”—tiny, unexpected details that you might not notice right away, but they reveal just how thoroughly he went over every inch of your vehicle. It’s a signature touch that says a lot about the pride he takes in his work.

But beyond the remarkable results, Nate is simply a genuinely great guy. Kind, trustworthy, meticulous, and passionate about what he does.

For a car that deserves more than a quick wash, Paint & Petrol Mobile Detailing brings the detail to you—and leaves your vehicle looking its absolute best. 🚘✨

Be sure to tell Paint + Petrol Auto Detailing that SCOUT sent you!

A little etiquette goes a long way.

Back-to-school season brings new teachers, new classmates, and plenty of opportunities for children to practice something that doesn’t always make the school supply list: good manners.

We asked Leigh Ruhl of the National League of Junior Cotillions Asheville Chapter National League of Junior Cotillions Asheville Chapter to share five timeless manners she believes every child should know—from confidently greeting an adult to making someone new feel welcome and remembering the power of a handwritten thank-you note. ✍️

Because etiquette isn’t about being overly formal. It’s about confidence, kindness, and making others feel seen and respected.

Print House

There’s something wonderfully tactile about printmaking—the ink, the texture, the press, and the beautiful surprise of pulling a print for the very first time. That’s exactly what makes Print House such a special addition to Asheville’s creative community.

Founded by artists and printmakers Anna Bryant and Denise Markbreit, Print House is so much more than a gallery. Their new downtown space on Carolina Lane is a working print studio, education center, and gathering place where artists of all levels can learn, experiment, and get their hands a little inky.

From intimate workshops with nationally recognized printmakers to press rentals and one-on-one technical guidance, Print House makes this centuries-old art form feel fresh, approachable, and incredibly fun. We also love their commitment to sustainable, solvent-free practices and their belief that creativity is best when it’s shared.
After losing their original studio to Hurricane Helene, Anna and Denise rebuilt with resilience, heart, and an even bigger vision. The result is a beautiful new chapter for a beloved Asheville creative space.

Go for the art. Stay for the process. ANd don't forget to tell them SCOUT sent you!✨

SCOUTED: Maggie B’s Wine & Specialty Store 🍷
Maggie B's Wine Store

There are some places you discover… and then there are the places you immediately want to tell everyone about. Tucked into historic downtown Weaverville, Maggie B's Wine & Specialty Store is one of those gems.

Owned by sommelier Elspeth Brown, Maggie B’s is where exceptional wine meets genuine hospitality. Browse a thoughtfully curated selection of bottles and local provisions, linger over a delicious lunch special, or pull up a seat and let the team help you discover your next favorite pour. No wine expertise required—just a love of good food, good wine and good company.
And then there are the complimentary weekly wine tastings—an invitation to slow down, sip something new and get to know the people behind the bottle. It’s this welcoming, unpretentious approach that makes Maggie B’s feel less like a wine shop and more like a gathering place for the community.

Go for the wine, stay for lunch, stock up on provisions and leave with a new favorite bottle (and probably a few new friends, too).

Cheers to the little places that make our towns special. 🥂

After ten incredible years as Editor and Owner of The Scout Guide Asheville & Western North Carolina, I’m writing this with a very full heart and immense gratitude for the people, businesses, and community that have made this journey so meaningful.
Stepping away from something you’ve poured your heart into is never easy, but this chapter has taught me that growth often means taking a leap, trusting what’s ahead, and making room for a new beginning.

I am beyond thrilled to be passing the torch to Samantha “Sami” Edwards, who I know will bring her creativity, energy, heart, and fresh perspective to The Scout Guide Asheville & Western North Carolina. I truly couldn’t imagine the guide in better hands. 💛

The Scout Guide has been so much more than a publication to me. It has been a creative outlet, a source of inspiration, and a community that has shaped me in ways I’ll carry with me always. Having the opportunity to tell your stories, champion your businesses, and celebrate the incredible people who make this region so special has been one of the greatest honors of my life.

To every business owner, collaborator, friend, photographer, partner, reader, and follower who has supported this journey — thank you. The relationships, memories, and friendships mean more than I can put into words.

Here’s to turning the page, embracing what’s next, and watching Sami lead The Scout Guide Asheville & Western North Carolina into its next chapter.

This isn’t goodbye. It’s simply a new beginning. ✨
