Recently I’ve had the pleasure of collaborating with Nurture NC on a series of designs for print and marketing pieces that help spread the word about healthcare benefits.

Working with their team, I learned that North Carolinas rate of maternal deaths during birth is 78% higher than the national average. - What the heck?!

Nurture NC is working to change this! They bring together healthcare organizations and leaders to improve outcomes for mothers and infants. These new campaign materials help families learn about the benefits available to them and how to take advantage of them.

Nurture NC already had a strong, established brand when they reached out. These pieces were designed to feel fresh while constant with their existing visuals. They are clean, clear, and informative, and convey a sense of hope and approachability.

Customers & clients are rejecting AI-generated designs for a whole host of reasons. Let me explain why these designs fall short from a design perspective, and do more repelling than attracting.

AI flyer designs have a LOT going on. They include an overwhelming amount of information, and your audience’s eye doesn’t know where to look. People get information overload, and there’s no opportunity for them to linger and absorb the most important information you’re trying to get across.

If we compare AI flyer designs to professionally designed flyers, you’ll see that the pro designs are all very simple. They includes lots of open space, which allows the design and the information to breathe, which thus allows your audience to digest the information without distractions.

You don’t need lots of descriptions and info and photos on your flyers. You just need a few key pieces of information. The rest of the fine details can go on your website or in the text part of your social media post (like this right here).

AI is not a designer. It doesn’t understand design principles. It doesn’t understand human psychology. It doesn’t make strategic recommendations. It simply spits out slop that is more likely to repel your audience than draw them in.

When you work with a professional designer (hi), you get to work with a human being who is an expert in helping you step into your audience’s shoes and strategically decide what to include, what not to include, and how to lay it out in a way that is going to be the most effective for communicating the right message to the right people, and therefore growing your business.

It has been SO fun to see the Adobe Adobe Creative Club brand getting rolled out since collaborating with their team on the design earlier this year!

This summer I had the pleasure of helping out with some signage design for their meetups in LA and NYC. The designs incorporate the new brand, as well as some assets we’d created for past events, and the look established for their LA meetup graphics.

I absolutely love being able to support businesses and organizations with design projects beyond their branding or website design. Once we work together, I’m here as your design partner for from business cards to billboards and everything in between!

Did you know I’ve been using the name Amp’d Designs since I was in high school?!

Back when I was a wee teen, I started designing gig posters and album art for local bands. Swipe through to see the very first “logo” I made for Amp’d Designs (and brace yourself)!

All this to say, graphic design isn’t something I just picked up one day. I’ve spent my entire life doing this work, and my entire professional career committed to creating good design that not only looks nice, but is done right.

Still, when I created the page for Amp’d Designs *17 years ago* (!), I had no idea it would turn into the business it is today. But there’s nothing else I’d rather be doing!

All these years later, my business not only a passion, but the culmination of my formal design education, studio background, proven track record of happy and successful clients, and 10+ years of experience as a professional designer.
