(TLDR: Gushy gratitude post and goal setting) I’ve been absolutely immersed in gratitude for how amazing recent personal and professional transitions have been for me and my family over the last two years. I got through some major growing pains with help from friends, colleagues, and professionals (big thanks to & Su for this -to name a few!) My newish work-from-home art and design life has allowed me the freedom and flexibility I’ve always craved. I’m very excited about how much I can grow now that I’ve leveled several learning curves. My next challenges are showing up as a teacher and leader. I’ve done it before, but my nervousness about speaking publicly, or even to small groups, is persistent and sometimes, but not always, overwhelming. I use humor to get through it most often. And this is why I tend to laugh at inappropriate times. 🤷🏼‍♀️ 🤭✏️

👯‍♀️I'm so excited about Present Moment Media's new offering- The Lounge: A Digital Wellness Community for Changemakers Across the Globe!

✏️We built out this community platform using Squarespace Member Areas. One challenge of Squarespace's native setup for member areas is the navigation. I added clarity to the user experience by installing code to create a custom left-hand “burger" menu for members to navigate that allows the main navigation menu to also remain visible to users. On mobile, the member menu stacks neatly above the main menu when users are logged in.

Its a mood (board.) Alluvium Cellars reached out for my help in designing a Square Online site that reflects their existing branding and proposed interior design. With a name like Alluvium, this geology nerd 🤓 could not help to think of the importance of the life in the soil. I identified simple symbols to incorporate within their site with conceptual significance and strong ties to their interior design. I curated a letterboard font to again draw parallels to their plans for their interior space and complement their existing fonts.

Tiaret, Baltimore-based artist and tattooist, requested an interactive site to highlight their visionary creative spark. They wanted to highlight their own .gifs and illustrations. With our combined creative skills, we created a simple site that functions well for Tia, shows off her artistry, and provides the interactive element she desired - mostly provided by css hover states, on the Squarespace platform and backed up by the design powers of Squarekicker.

It’s a Mood (Board) Monday. I was feeling inspired this weekend by some unused assets from a client project with so I developed a brand for my imaginary friends at Sci-chic Sisters (which yes, might be a nod to a certain influential band and also inspired by my actual psychic sista-you know who you are.) 🤓 A little sci-fi, a little magical, with a touch of art nouveau. Squarekicker is a Squarespace designer's best friend. It allows for more accurately and quickly optimized mobile and tablet views for happy websites and clients among many other quick design options that normally would require a bunch of CSS coding.

Another favorite feature is the ability to style a summary block. Heres a before and after of my blog layout. The before is fine...but boxy and boring. The after has personality and it was super quick to try out several style options without changing CSS by using Squarekicker.

Ok, maybe your Squarespace site is not "busted" exactly, but it definitely could be better if you missed these details:

➡Create a post-submit redirect to custom content! Help your potential client/customer get more value or info about your product or service by redirecting them to a FAQ, special promo, or guide to the next steps in your process.

✨Add a favicon! A lot of people have a lot of tabs open! Add a custom touch to the browser tab so they know which tab to click to find your info! It’s a very small detail that can make a big impact on brand recognition.

👯‍♂️ Select a social share image! Find it in the design tab. At the very least make sure your site has a main social share image but you can also add social share images to every page. If you have a special program you'll likely want to brand its sale page with the program branding rather than your main logo/image. If you have trouble with it not showing up immediately on Facebook posts then google Facebook's debugger tool and go through that process to help the social image reset and show up.

✏ Fill out SEO descriptions! Yes, Google will crawl your pages and that is why you should add as much relevant text to your pages as possible. But you can have a little more control over how google defines your page by setting up your own SEO descriptions for each page and the site as a whole.

🖼 Optimize those images! Decrease the drag on load time by compressing images. I often do this last, once I'm certain of the images that I will be using. Name your images something that describes the image and your offering to help with Google image search results.

🤩Don't be afraid to explore all of the settings in the Squarespace dashboard. Most things can be changed if you make a mistake at first. Squarespace has many helpful guides and you can always reach out to me for a consult or if you're ready to hand over the design process to a Squarespace nerd.🤓
