"Songs like Todd Adelman‘s “This Rounds on Me” just make you feel all warm inside, as though you’ve taken a shot of whiskey and it’s quickly settling in your stomach. “Lay down your worries, leave them behind,” Adelman encourages over a rustic arrangement. “This rounds on me / You can get me next time.” It’s that nugget of motivation that many of us could use right now. It’s easy to get swept up in the news, doomscrolling, or even minor inconveniences in our everyday lives. But if we let the music take us away, we just might find the comfort we desperately need." - B-Sides and Badlands

"Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of Brennan Gilmore’s song “New Sudan” from his forthcoming album My Name is Daniel Leek. The album was recorded at the Galax, Virginia home of Dori Freeman and Nick Falk (Caamp), who co-produced the album.

Brennan spent years abroad including in civil upheaval areas of Africa, only to return home to uncomfortably similar unrest, which, difficult as it is to face, served as material for this fabulous album. About the album, Brennan’s bio describes “the America Gilmore returned to felt uncomfortably familiar, with echoes of the borders, fault lines and conflicts he had spent years negotiating abroad. The album is a meditation on the unity, darkness and hope of both worlds.” This song recounts a young man facing the prospects of being forced to fight in a war. Rich with stringed instruments – fiddle, mandolin, guitars – and an energy building: “ Oh my sister where are you now? Dear brother, have you been found?”’

“'Johatsu' is a song with few words, but so richly is the image drawn, such is the trademark balance of wit and wisdom, poignancy and poetics that the message is succinct, subtle, and sublimely satisfactory. Some writers need something akin to the Gettysburg Address to make their point; such is the deftness of Suneater’s pen that this mere footnote says so much.

And the same understament and understanding is found in the music. The beats are a sparse shuffle; the guitar and the piano, which underlines the changes, are spacious; the sonic washes that drift through translucent, the groove graceful, and the solo tastefully restrained." - Big Takeover Magazine

Suneaters V: Heroic Dose releases the 19th of June, via Lotuspool Records.

There is a wonderful world-weariness about this new one from Suneaters, a nostalgic resignation which stays perfectly on the whistful side of melancholic. If the lyrics are to be taken at face value, then it is a sad story of broken relationships and that feeling that while you might not be able to....

"I fall hard for songs that cajole you and then stun you with cool original sonic shapes and "Home" does just that. It also does not feel tethered to a particular era, it floats among 70's psychedelia (those fluttering organs and space rock guitars), 80's art rock (the piercing weird sonic painting), 90's indie (the simmering sludge pop-ness), all, I might add, sprinkled with hippie dust. Song like this are difficult to decipher in terms of comparisons to other bands / artists but I do feel a sort of algamic lava of artists like BeBop Deluxe, Built To Spill, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Chain and Hum. How fu***ng cool is that?" - American Pancake
