Advertising & Public Relations at UGA The Department of Advertising & Public Relations, in the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication, at UGA is a Top-5 nationally-ranked program.

We provide students with cutting-edge academic and professional curriculum and diverse experiential learning opportunities in advertising and public relations. Award-winning teachers and nationally recognized researchers teach classes in the department. In addition to a core program of required skills, management, design and writing courses, ADPR majors can choose from an array of special

topics classes in such areas as social media, crisis communication, political advertising, fundraising, advertising and consumer psychology, sex in advertising, international advertising and Latin-American telenovelas due to the varied expertise of the faculty. Our department prepares students to be creative problem solvers, writers, managers, policy and communication decision makers, media planners and analysts in the fields of media, advertising and public relations. This program emphasizes persuasive communication skills in emerging and traditional media that are essential for effective communication in the 21st century. This past month, a group of our AdPR students have had the opportunity to explore Japan and visit companies that are pushing the media world to new heights! As their program wraps up, we wanted to highlight Advertising student Hayleigh Stang’s experience so far on this study abroad. Here is what Hayliegh had to say about her time with AdPR Japan:

“Japan has been the most exciting and eye-opening experience! Getting to explore cities like Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto has led to unforgettable memories. I have been so lucky to immerse myself in Japanese culture and everything we are learning through this program. Company visits to APCO and Edelman in Japan led me to discover new insights in the world of PR and Advertising and really changed my perspective. I am so happy to have done this program and to have met such wonderful people along the way!”

This past semester, AdPR’s Isabelle Lovejoy was a Publicity Intern at the CNN Atlanta Office. Here is what she had to say about the experience:

“Interning at CNN during my last semester at UGA was the perfect way to conclude my college career. Thanks to the UGA Career Fair and AdPR Connection, I had the opportunity to meet with recruiters from WBD several times over the years which aided me in eventually landing an internship.

Through my projects, I strengthened my skills in media landscape analysis, clip reporting, targeted media lists, pitch drafting and strategy, cross-platform promotion, breaking news monitoring, and media strategy development. One of the most rewarding parts of my internship was exploring how news organizations can better connect with Gen Z audiences and understand their news consumption habits and perceptions.”

We are beyond thrilled to announce that Blake Witmer, a Public Relations major here at Grady College’s AdPR department, has been selected as the University of Georgia's Spring 2026 Undergraduate Commencement student speaker.

Throughout her four years at UGA, Blake has been a dedicated and passionate member of the Grady College community, throwing herself into every opportunity that came her way. She took part in AdPR's prestigious New York City Study Away Internship program, where she gained hands-on professional experience at two internships, one at the Public Relations Museum and another at Makeable, a creative design agency.

Our Talking Dog Agency hosted one of its most anticipated events of the year last week, its Client Showcase Gala. Industry professionals, agency partners, faculty, and students all gathered to hear the campaigns delivered by various client teams.

After a night of incredible work on display, this year the first place winner was the LG x Ammunition team, second place was awarded to the UGA Innovation District, and BBDO x Voya won third place. Beyond the podium, three additional teams were recognized for standout work. Spice World was awarded Most Creative Idea, the World War II Foundation took home Most Innovative Approach, and The Home Depot earned Highest Potential for Business Impact. We could not be more proud of these teams and all the hard work they put in.

Congratulations to Professor Kim Landrum on receiving the 2026 Panhellenic Professor of the Year Award! This award seeks to recognize a faculty member who has made a meaningful and lasting impact on their students through mentorship, inspiration, and dedication to their success. She was nominated by Gigi Murray, a third year public relations major. Here is what Gigi had to say:

“I have so many great things to say about Professor Landrum. She is an incredible teacher, first of all, but she is also a kind person with a great heart. She gives the best feedback and advice I've received from any teacher at UGA because she truly cares about her students doing well. She wants every one of her students to leave her class not just a better student, but a better person. She encourages you to make mistakes and creates a safe environment to do so. She reframes failure as an opportunity to learn.”
