We cannot shake these sobering thoughts...
What happened?
If it happened to them...
We met Brett & Sarah just days after purchasing our boat at BLM. Here's a memory from April 21, 2018:
What a great day! We hosted our first dinner guests aboard Hale Kai. In fact, it was the first meal I cooked on board.
Living in the marina we're just beginning to meet new people... some liveaboards, others cruisers. On Wednesday I met Dave & Jane Jameson who had just arrived from St. Augustine en route home to Maine after cruising for 3 years. After some chatting she told us of a Canadian/British couple who were heading this way - the husband having sailed in the Fastnet race in the 70's - as had Bjarne. We were excited to meet them and learn more.
On Friday we all met at the marina-sponsored happy hour. After a few glasses of wine, some great appetizers and lively conversation, I suggested we do a progressive dinner the next day. We offered to do the main course if they would do appetizers and dessert. We all agreed and the Yacht Crawl was born!
We started with appetizers aboard Theros - a Gib'Sea 42 - hosted by Sarah & Brett on Dock 1 at 5pm. We were well supplied with great snacks, wines & SURF - local shrimp done up Cajun style by Brett. We saw the wedding album of their nuptials at Stonehenge... simply stunning!
Around 7 we moseyed back to our place on Dock 5 for TURF - organic lamb chops from Sheepcote Farm, risotto & roasted veggies. What fun to cook a meal for new cruising friends! We confirmed that dinner for 6 is "just right" for our boat.
Great conversation ensued and we finally made our way aboard "So Far...So Good" - an Ericson 38 on Dock 2 - hosted by Jane & Dave. For dessert they served up several types of Rum Cake (chocolate, coconut & piña colada!) with ice cream & fruit... Delicious! And perfect for the pirate in each of us!
It was 11:30 before we meandered back to our own boat having been filled with good food and great conversation with some wonderful people.
Thanks for a lovely time, new friends. May your journeys be as pleasant as this evening has been.
